Can somebody please help me with my query. I have Scantronic 9448+ SD1 and would like to install broadband first of all I have asked if broadband is compatiable with the alarm and the answer is yes, what my question is the alaram is hard wired into the BT socket (not through a plug) but straigh into the socket. Would I need to to get the hard wired wire connected to a bt plug and then connect this to the Micro Filter or can I just add the micro filter to the socket and connect the modem into the micro filter with the alram still hard wired into the socket ?

Any advice/help much appreciated.

You can just put a microfilter onto your socket and use ADSL broadband as the SD1+ doesnt activate unless the alarm sounds, in which case it will seize the line and disconnect the ADSL. Otherwise ADSL should work normally, my texecom premier doesnt go through a microfilter and it works perfectly, but disconnects the entire IT network (and needs router resetting) when it seizes the line!

Dale,

Thanks for your responce, can I just confirm what you are saying, I can leave the SD1 (I do not have the SD1+) hard wired into the socket and place a micro filter and use broadband when I am home and it will work fine without having to get a BT plug fitted to the filter is that right ?

No the sd1 has to go through the filter to work. (every time)

As others have said the SD1 should be on the filtered side, think of it as just another handset, it will work unfiltered but it might have a problem hearing the confirmation 8 as it will also be hearing all the high tones of the ADSL.

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

as the others have said you do not have to have the sd1's phone line filtered as it wil still work, but when the dialer has to dial out it will disconect your broadband.

when the dialer needs to dial ( when your alarm goes off ) youre house/shop will be empty and your broadband wont be active anyway so it wont make any difference

as for having problems canceling the dialer by pressing 8, if your broadband isnt connected you shuldent have any lowtone (digital signal) on the line so you shudent have any problems

i am a senior engineer for a very reputable nacoss aprooved company and havent had any problems myself

if you wanted to filter the line id recomend getting a bt filter that screws into your master socket with chrone connecters on the reverse so you dont have the dialer pluged into the socket cos all an intruder has to do is quickly unplug your dialer and ha presto your dialer dosent work

any other problems email me

Pete...

Whilst its advisable to put it through a filter, it will work without going through one... my texecom premier didnt go through a filter for ages, until I got sick of it taking down the broadband connection (seen as mine is permanatly on), so stuck a filter in front of it... but its not essential.

I'm a bit stumped as to why it would continually take down your connection. Surely it is only in use when you're being burgled.

I could quote many others on this forum and recommend your alarm being serviced and placed on a contract (with a Recognised Firm) ;)

Incidentally, I've got both and I've never had issues. Nor would I have expected there to be any, anyway.

cheers,

Eh?

My alarm don't need servicing, ive got the laptop connected to it at least once a quarter playing.

The Texecom premier takes down the connection if I get two calls one after another as the system thinks ur dialling into it. It also drops if the alarm dials out for any reason - normally when the smoke alarm goes off and starts calling the ARC (hehe... got a knack of cancelling the call b4 it goes through!).
