If not this would be the best way to learn, ie get yourself a job in the trade and learn about it whilst earning. You can then decide if this is the trade for you. If you have experience already and you are familiar with the standards, you will also be aware that there are risks involved with signing a test certificates, and it is best that you have insurance to cover yourself on these risks

As long as you have some background/training. You will need some insurance. Been working doing fire alarm and emergency light servicing for last year and a half. Would be lookin to try take on work in all areas if possible.

You may be better off trying subbying first, thats how most people seem to start this way you can earn money whilst building up your own business.

innerguard Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Hi CMcfadden, I am fairly new to this myself judging by the expirience that others have on this site, but have built up over the last 3 years from being new until now, getting into the installing and sales side of the business; although I must admit I am not new to the industry as I was in the admin side before. What area are you located in? Innerguard.
Oxford Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 I'd be interested in exactly what insurances one needs to cover themselfs as a one man band, so to speak? a lot of the people on this site seem to be self employed or employers, so are good people to comment on this.
