Guest Mirx Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Hi, I just bought a house, which has an //.National Installer.// Alarm System installed, the Panel says: Ademco Group Lynxr/Lynxr24, I was talking with a guy at Chubb, who has a good monitoring price, but once he found out it was an //.National Installer.// System, he said he can not monitor //.National Installer.// systems because they lock their control panels, and I would have to get a new system from them if I wanted to go with them. I'm not interested in replacing the equipment, but I find it hard to believe that since I technically own that hardward, that //.National Installer.// can lock it in any way that stops me from using it with their competition. Can anyone clarify this for me. Thanks.
norman Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Hi Mirx, If, as I believe it is the Ademco wireless system, then Chubb are right to want to replace the control with a piece of kit that their engineers are familiar with. this may save you money on labour charges in the long run. just my opinion Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
Guest Mirx Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Well, you're right, it is a wireless system, and I'm not familiar with how monitoring actually works either. Until I do some reading up on the details, the first thing I expect would be that the panel and all the devices (door sensors, motion detects, etc) work together with each other. Wouldn't they only need to program their phone number into the panel so that the panel calls them when something goes wrong? Does anyone know of any good reference websites, that I can read up on some of the details to monitoring services? One of the other things I noticed about this panel, is that it works with X-10 wireless devices, another cool feature I'm going to look into, has anyone every used this combination?
Guest Peter James Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Mirx Post where you are you will find even better value for money than Chubb on this site, and you wont have to replace the kit. Pete

morph Posted July 22, 2004 Posted July 22, 2004 As with all jobs, get a quote from //.National Installer.// and severall other companies and see which one best meets your needs in terms of cost, suitabillity and most importantly one that can fit in with your requirements. As Pete said there will be some other installers on the forum who will be able to help if you post your location and as Bellman said ring //.National Installer.// on their FREE number(you can pay for it later ) Colin.
