paulyb Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I have a VERITAS 8 for th propery i have just moved into. When i try to set the aarm i get the warning that zone 1 is not working. Zone 1 is the front door. I cannot omit this and therfore cannot set my alarm. Any suggestions.
Guest RJBsec Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Any suggestions. 1) Missing part of the contact pair, probably the magnet knocked off the door. 2) Cable damaged. Answer the same in both instances, get an engineer in to check, fix and service the system.
james.wilson Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 yep id expect it to be missing magnet or faulty door contact securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
arfur mo Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 i try to be a bit more helpful than the advice to "get an engineer" . assuming no new carpets laid damaging cables, if you have a surface contact you normally have a surface magnet, so depending on type, the common one has each component housed in oblong plastic casings with a screw at each end, these don't have to touch each other the but be aligned and no further apart than say 8mm. if you have a concealed contact and magnet, sometimes the magnet (which is in the door) detatches from plastic plate and drops into the door, or the magnet rotates 45% out. of alignment. a very simple test is see where the contact is, then pass a screwdriver shaft over the same location on the doors edge, you should feel a gentle pull as you pass over the magnet.. alignment is more critical than surface contacts, so check this and if the door has not dropped, perhaps due to worn hinge or incorrectly refitted it removed to allow wider furniture back and forth, tightening the top hinge screws sometimes helps. Arfur If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
Guest RJBsec Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Still say in a house you have just moved into, the best thing to do is get an engineer in to check the system and ensure that it is operating correctly, has a good backup battery and it's configured to suit your requirements. Even if you manage to fix the door contact yourself, how will you know that everything else is okay?
MrHappy Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 if you have a concealed contact and magnet, sometimes the magnet (which is in the door) detatches from plastic plate and drops into the door, or the magnet rotates 45% out. of alignment. do they buggery...... Mr Veritas God
Rulland Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 do they buggery...... Sorry to disagree Mr H-but I've been to at least 2 callouts where the magnet has indeed 'popped' and rotated causing at least an intermittent zone problem-which is great when it's the FE !
james.wilson Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 agreed seen contacts do that. it could be a few things op. if you check you do indeed have a magent andits also lined up etc, then we can take it from there securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
MrHappy Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 never seen it on one of ours in 15/16yrs or whatever, even with the nylon **** we used until we found stainless doubled reeded ones Mr Veritas God
Oxford Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Definitely worth checking the magnet has not fallen in to the door but also worth checking the frame side of the contact does not have any water ingress causing it to malfunction. If it has water ingress it will normally show up as a blue/ green crystalline coating on the terminals. But as said previously, worth getting an engineer to test everything. Good luck.
