Definitely wouldnt with a DIY homemade unlocking mechanism. Wouldnt sleep again !

your point is realised bit thanks for prudently raising it.

i've absolutely no intention to engage either mr Heath or Anne Robinson ;)

trust me, what ever is installed will be thoroughly 'road tested' and very severely in the factory for every type of abuse, and well before its finally installed.

Thanks Paul,

i'd need to check with PAC Tech to be sure as a good call being likely they would have something or know of it.

Errr, i wouldn't bet on it. Prepare to have that illusion ruined.

realised that as I posted it but decided to leave it - if you could use this the answer then is to find something to replace the handle rather than the lock.

.

thanks Paul,

still a good call as i'd overlooked PAC as an idea to phone.

the problem is he can't reach a handle for even normal use let alone in emergency use. while most times he has someone with him, either his mum and/or dad, it's the unforeseen exceptions that test our responsibility, so just can't afford ignore and hope on his behalf no human error or dads car breaks down that sort of thing, for us a pain for him could have massive effects if he has tipped the chair at the same time, and worryingly he has tipped out recently.

Evva a Austrian lock maked make a Motorised Euro cylinder that turns the cam for you via a switch/fob whatever you want to transmit to it.

E.Aldridge both in Manchester and London are the importers for Evva ( I used to be in another company) the motorised cylinder was novel and not too expensive.

Try them.

Hoi!

Behave yerself. He was referring to a uPVC door. Don't even go there Col. :fear:

doable with a powered lock and suitable PSU all under DDA.

But i wouldn't be putting my name to it with the motor being within the door. Small matter of door loop to consider. Definitely not foolproof.

Thats why recommended first option.

Having first hand experience of disabled, if the customer is so severely disabled, it would be unlikely the relevant services would allow him to live alone.

Only kicking ideas about really, The door aint been made yet has it ?

why not 2 solenoid bo;ts on the side ? chinese ones aint all that dear these days. As long as the door guy can think outside the standard door that is. But does it HAVE to be a upvc door, lots more options if it was wood or alloy surely.

Many Thanks Oxo

thats brilliant info, sounds like to me just what i'm after.

i know Aldridge Ltd, near the canals in the Angel (London) let my account lapse with them as hardly used it, pia when you phone them.

not sure if they will talk to me without account, but will give it a shot.

Agreed.

There is the no small matter of wheelchair access with uPVC too. - wheels not width.

Only gone down the multipoint lock solution has that was the lock/style being fitted.

Traditional door would be far better.

thanks guys,

until i speak with the door maker gets back from holiday, i can say.

the original timber door has warped and is now ill fitting, and it is worse during winter. it might be thats wy he now wants uPVC

the end client suffers badly from cold hands due to poor circulation even o warm days, caused by his disability, his home is open plan for his chair, and doors are held open for his chair so he has no other barriers to reduce any drafts.

as we discussed i suggested the plastic hanging curtain barriers or he could have lower spec door motors installed to a couple of internal doors, optionally operated by pir as he approached, so he i considering this but the front door is far more pressing, wants it sorted before autumn sets in.

i had thought of suggesting using a decent seasoned wooden blank for the door, as would be much easier and cheaper for locking issues, bit frustrating as i need to speak with the man who is making the door, just hope he has considered the threshold needs of the wheel chair.

but please keep any suggestions coming, really jst want the best options for this fellow, even if i have to make a 'King Arfurs' water powered draw bridge for him tongue.gif

The customer needs to think about wheelchair access and the doorstep. uPVC traditionally has the bottom lip of 2-4 inches. For wheelchairs this is an absolute killler. Tell him he's having wood. No ifs, no buts. Wood.

Hi Cubit,

appreciated, i have highlighted these points in an email. the door engineer mainly works to schools and public buildings so should be fairly aware of the usual DDA issues for wheelchairs, and i'll be sitting over his shoulder on this one - all the way fear.gif.

meanwhile bcause he is away its been like runing flat out with a staple though me foot, but thanks again for 'locks on line' tip, they supply a 3 point motorised kit, i'm waiting for their rep to call me with more info.

as long as the threshold step is sorted properly this so far is the most viable 'off the shelf' option imo and will advise 2 units, one kept in reserve backup at the home, also called the other contact you suggested, and waiting a reply.

many thanks again to everyone, and i will keep you informed which way it go's.

sort of job we/i don't get that often, interesting in its own right and also being able to give some real help and asurance to the disabled, i think well worth sharing of the info between us, so we can all better serve their needs.
