james.wilson Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Something that came up the other day at SSS/TC was the problem of charges made by some providers regarding alarm signals I have compiled a list here that we can all add to etc here But basically we were having a lot of complaints from customers on digi. With the advent of daily test calls, open close/abort and extended formats, this has become an issue. Plus the fact that our ARC moved us from 0870 and 0845 numbers (that are included free in some telecom providers call packages) onto 0844 and 0871. We couldnt find a relaible and safe solution that didnt result in high telephone bills for the end user. We decided the only way for us was freefone numbers for the signalling devices. So now all our domestic digis call a freefone number. Not a huge issue for us as being a newish company we don't have that many Digis (Old tech), as i am not a fan, you can get to most phone lines round here so i try not to use them. The few we do have are yet to moan about it.
james.wilson Posted June 18, 2010 Author Posted June 18, 2010 are we discussing CS monitoring charges in Public? Arfur no telephone call charges. It was a huge problem to us and we are still migrating to the freefone number securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
PeterJames Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 no telephone call charges. It was a huge problem to us and we are still migrating to the freefone number I see this complaint all the time am I the only security company that has an ARC the uses geographical numbers
IAS Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 I see this complaint all the time am I the only security company that has an ARC the uses geographical numbers I believe EMCS are giving the option of migrating over to freephone for a small increase in annual cost.
arfur mo Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 no telephone call charges. It was a huge problem to us and we are still migrating to the freefone number ok, i thik i see - so now we are being openly 'tight' in public? Arfur Skype? Arfur I see this complaint all the time am I the only security company that has an ARC the uses geographical numbers ben a while but i thin AIM (custodian)and ADT used 0845 ones? if on BT can't you make it a favourit number perhaps? Arfur If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

Arfur ben a while but i thin AIM (custodian)and ADT used 0845 ones? if on BT can't you make it a favourit number perhaps? Arfur Problem with using any non geographical numbers Arf is the fact that some service providers charge more to call them, I for instance dont pay for phone calls at my home I pay a one off fee, but if I call an non geographical number like 0845 it costs me a call hence why its better for digi's to call a geographical number free in my case.
james.wilson Posted June 18, 2010 Author Posted June 18, 2010 No arfur. Trying to act in the best interest of the client. They pay the phone bill unless you pay your clients phone bills as well? The point is lets assume an 0844 number with a digi on open close and test calls Thats a minimum of 5 calls per day on an avg domestic (full set, part set, test call) id say also that a call takes approx 10 seconds. So worse case (per minute billing, most expensive provider) thats 10p per minute, and an 11p call setup fee. so 5 minutes is 50p and 5 call setups is 55p. £1.05 per day or £383.25 per year. Even if not sending o/c signals it would be 21p per day (10p call and 11p call setup fee) or £76.65 per year. See my point now. These would be charges from virgin for the calls made securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
