Crikey its 19:06 !!!!

ruddy light weight, i was working till gone 8pm last night lol!

i wondered if he progged SD1 to cancel on restore and siren was kicking back.

1st of try the SD1 at home using a simple 12 volt psu, tbh BB filter i've never found it's needed for a dialler, the dialler has no conection to the line until tripped (relay isolation). a phone used withput a fliter simply buggers the broadband connection, but they won't be around to be bothered.

so my 2pth

i'd bias the input high NOT lo, and with a 2.2k resistor (a 1k 1/3 watt will fry itself). i.e. take one end to the input and the other end to a permanent +12 volts (like the bell + output terminal).

if you bias low the external siren could ring (as reported above, thats what it needs to operate the sounder circuit).

the bell output will go hard negative when the system go's into alarm or bell test i.e. switching from near fully Hi to fully Lo and override the bias resistors influence.

the SD1 + input is 'smitt triggered', in simple terms it needs a clean fast voltage drop from near full hi to full lo for reliable operation.

If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

Hello all, Just back posting an update. Went this morning installed a secondary telephone socked and an adsl filter,..... Problem solved!! Thanks for all the advice here lads it was greatly appreciated! Im going to stick around here, seems like a good forum. My knowledge of alarms isnt great, Do basic installs, nothing fancy. Spark by trade so I can maybe help yous better with electrical problems rather than alarms.

Thanks Everyone

This is what I thought also mate. The phone interferes with the BB but not the otherway around. I thought to myself that in all probability it will only be used now and again and shouldn`t cause problems with the BB as the occupants will be out if it is ever in use. I was surprised when it worked TBH

................. I had other problems with tampers also, Its just been one of them jobs. Ive a feeling ill be back for something in the future.

BB stops the dialler "picking up" the line ..........

change from £20.00 is about all a Sterling is worth

What do you recommend then m8? I always use the sterling 10 as not being an alarm installer I find it straight forward to set it. Speaking to an alarm installer a few years back he told me to stick with whatever system you feel comfortable with and I have always used it since then as I was already familiar with it. Usually I can set them up in less than half an hour (programming/setting up, not installation) but after the past couple of days I think I`ll use something else next time

BB stops the dialler "picking up" the line ..........

I should have known better m8, Something so simple ended up something really frustrating

as suggested you could look at the Risco range of panels, easy programming tree as well.

JW, Glad we could ALL assist.

You will gather we have a very argumentative set skill of people. All (oh OOPSYSIEDAISY here we go) can work on alarms electrics ( Told ya here we go).

All are extarts ( yes the spelling was correct).

The great thing here is we can ask ( watch out for the EXTART`S) and not be ridiculed.

Then when known for a few replies we really sink our ( this is the funny bit( virtual teeth in)) .

So welcome to the "milli volt section" With us it takes a month to find a fault, with 3 Phase you look for the bright flash and dead people :P

Stick with us, its a carnival ride. but you do sure learn. *Bother we all learn everyday- Why here is so evocative and believe it or not FRIENDLY.

You dont need any resistors.

bb does interfere with comms eqpt.

dialler works on dtfm ie two frequencies make a tone which is decoded (by end eqpt & by exchange switching kit)

bb is always on, working at higher frequencies than we hear (hence dog whistle quip).

Kiss off is poss if eg harmonics at work (of 852 & 1336Hz)

Also agree, line sieze not always necessary with modern dtfm phones, but have had interference with on line fax trying to connect, so personally prefer.

there are times a pull up down resistor is needed when the voltage isnt high or low enough for the trigger. however in my experience if it needed a resistor it needed it because it wasnt working at all. im not an rf guru but i can the argument of harmonics.
