Guest Oxo Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 I would'nt advise messing around with it too much if you're not sure what your doing with alarms. OR ANYTHING TO DO WITH ELECTRICITY If unsure contact a local company.
A-G Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Alarm pair is the normally closed pair of wires from the PIR. Twist them together and then set the system. If it goes off the trouble is the wiring. If not rewire back into the device and cover it, from inside. If it goes "off" the device is the problem. Good, sound technical advise ...... but we must presume the OP has no technical knowledge so trying this may be unwise. Additionally, if the system is on contract he could infringe the terms, and even if not on contract it may be set for 'engineer reset on tamper' .... so I wouldn't advise opening the detector . . . PM me for access to the SSAIB members discussion area.

arfur mo Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 recent hot weather = likely more windows left open. always best to advise on the 'external' causes and why, and my post is an excerpt of how i train the new owner or user of an alarm system, including the shower example most have forgotten to take a towel in for a bath or shower at some time, then had to nip out while now soaking wet and shivering, using such humour in stills in to the memory that advice about closing windows and the appreciation of how sensitive the detector actually is to drafts. pwersonally i'd rather the key holder remembered every summer or better every time the alarm is armed and why they need to take these steps, and my experience in servicing and break downs over the years backs upo this 'eccentric' approach. take panic buttons "why do the lock", i explain as a physical indication it was actually operated, (causes studied looks from audience) so i follow it up with "this way you get 2 bites at the cherry" now frowns of confusion 1) you smack the child for denying they touched it and lying 2) you get to smack them again for the touching of it in the 1st place. so kid/s within earshot or get told the 'joke' they also gets to remember to leave it well alone, - simple's very effective kiddology :0 with the pet i often say no problem, i have an industrial strengh pack of 'blue tac', stick blob on each paw, a tab on the chin and the tail (if it has one) you then stick cat/dog to the ceiling before arming. corny jokes yes, but the aim is to get the user to remember and pass on) to remove the pets, close windows and leave PAB's alone, which is exactly what it was meant to do - i.e. reduce false alarms, Arfur //they don't risk calling me back for even more corny jokes// If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
