hpotter Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 With regard to wheelchair users, (think cubit already pointed out) its the width of the door openings & opening inwards or outwards. We just quoted for motorised doors cos landlord (bus premises), just fitted a ramp @ £'sss without thinking how they can open door, & inner environmental door to main corridor. Landlord yet to come to terms with widening all relevant internal 2xg doors. Now bear in mind there is no lift to 1st floor in this place, the refurb aint gone too well.. When all done, be interested to read rro ra.
Guest Oxo Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 To pull back to some others comments. I have a "case study" Person has severe difficulty in mobility. He rents from the local council whom passed the building as fit for purpose. As it has a ground floor toilet and tiny wash basin. He now needs to use a wheelchair as well as his walking frame. The "cill"as others mention is actually called a "threshold". With a step leading to the threshold. A walking frame let alone a wheelchair is difficult to manoeuvre at best. He has 3 children who run rampant on the first floor bedrooms. Some history- Wife died also one child has an attentive disorder. He has no way of getting up there so takes their word on the cleaning issues. To be honest they are good, untidy but good. Social services seem to not want to be involved. So much for paying taxes! I have taken an objective view and have helped him to put together a concise and correct plan of action as he does not wish to move. As his children are into the final stages of education and have many friends in the area. As mentioned in previous threads the door widths are not correct, even internally. Common sense here seems to be lacking. So Who has a great idea to make this situation better?
hpotter Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Think thats the problem, common sense cant be legislated for. The more that gets on the statute books cant be fully implemented cos of interaction with existing, or updated etc.
IAS Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 The "cill"as others mention is actually called a "threshold". nope it`s a "cill" (a threashold has a step)
Guest Oxo Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 threshold n 1. (Miscellaneous Technologies / Building) Also called doorsill a sill, esp one made of stone or hardwood, placed at a doorway 2. any doorway or entrance 3. the starting point of an experience, event, or venture on the threshold of manhood ( you there yet?)
