Guest swampdog Posted July 12, 2003 Posted July 12, 2003 So, whats it like being in this business in Europe? Probly about like it is in the USA... I'm a service manager for Interface Security In Louisiana. Isnt this the greatest industry to be a part off??!! I found this site while looking for a manual for Electronic Line systems. The "Sumit" systems. Personally, I'm not too fond of them myself, Maybe if I could find manuals, we would get along better!! Interface recently started collecting for svc on site. It's kinda awkward for me to issue a bill to a longtime customer, since they've always been billed for it. Do any of you have to collect on-site? Of-course, if they have a maintinance contract, I'm spared the pain of the request. So, needless to say, I've been selling alot of Maint. contracts! Well, catch you later, Swampdog
Guest simmo Posted July 12, 2003 Posted July 12, 2003 Welcome to the site swampdog, I'm a small company and I always collect payment on completion of my jobs. I would imagine bigger firms have other payment plans in place. I don't know about the rest of Europe but in the UK this is a pretty competative industry, some firms go for the cheaper installs, others take a long term view and go quality all the way. Simmo B)

Guest swampdog Posted July 12, 2003 Posted July 12, 2003 Thanks all, Dave I was looking for the 3208GLS Manual. I was able to reach Electronics line tech support, and their sending it to me. I have the 3208/3208plus manual, as we had aquisitioned about 50 of those systems from another alarm co. However, to my suprise, the programming on the GLS is completely different. I use to download the panels from my office, but we had a computer glitch friday, and our computer man is on vacation. I was able to program and test, with tech support help... but If ya'll are like me, I like to have the proper manual in hand.... so I dont look too stupid! lol! I forgot to give my background in the Alarm Ind. 18 years with a company called "Alexandria Alarms" in Alexandria, Louisiana. Interface bought the co. last Sept. so, Ive been with them since Sept. I noticed you use the term "engineer" , we use "technician". I am a NICET Level 2 "engineer". I've been running the service dept. for about 12 years. Something else I've noticed is it sounds like over there, you have codes and standards for burglar alarm systems. I think laws will be passed here soon ( I hope) to regulate the standards here. Of course, we have fire regulation code to go by for Fire alarm installation, Licensing, testing etc.... Im also a level 2 La. burglar alarm tech. Most states require Licensing, but there isnt an "inspection board" yet.
