MrHappy Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 If it was just me looking after them we wouldn't do this. I reakon I could manage any panel as long as I had the manual. But there is no way imho our engineers could. Ding! systems are too complex to trust your staff have made the extra effort to esure something different will work Mr Veritas God
james.wilson Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Agreed. We do it on all systems. We have a handful of note of kit we know very well. even door contacts these days are not as simple as they once were. I'd never want am engineer to say to a client 'i don't know this xyz' or 'i havnt been trained on this' securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
IAS Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 We always replace the panel unless its a galaxy or a castle. We can't support nor do we carry parts for other panels. But while we don't do as many takeovers as we could we also don't take on rubbish that will cause costly callouts. If it was just me looking after them we wouldn't do this. I reakon I could manage any panel as long as I had the manual. But there is no way imho our engineers could. brave, and in public too?
Guest Oxo Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 But there is no way imho our engineers could. Must be poor engineers then. One panel wonders?
Alarm Protection Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Could be a Gardtec, Galaxy or even a Sterling 10.....if we can take them over we will. Full re programme on all old systems as you dont know what the other companies engineer has put in or not. Sometimes the paperwork doesnt match zone etc. It also depends on the age of the panel but if the customer is kept informed at all times then there is hardly any room for a debate with them. If the panel is locked then advise customer to get company out to unlock the panel or get the go ahead to replace. We always replace with Gardtec as thats our main panel. Maybe not a sterling 10 though lol! !
james.wilson Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I don't agree. We are specialists not jack of all trades.you can't imo know every product that's available fully. Yes you can manage / get by but imo you can't know everything about a product unless you use it everyday and train on it etc. We offer a specialised service. We couldn't do that long term if we different products every week. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Guest Oxo Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 You misunderstand to a degree. By all means have a "core" panel but have knowledge of maybe two others so you can be more flexible.
Alarm Protection Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Also i think it depends on other alarm companies in your area use. I find mostly Galaxy, Gardtec and ADE equipment used a lot but companies in the big city will have a lot more different panels etc to deal with especially installed by Paddy and Mick the cowboy's. !
james.wilson Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Ox we support the galaxy and castle ranges. We stock spares for these and all engineers are fully trained on them. We even carry spares for our systems where the panels are now obsolete. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
