Guest Detached Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 It's a long story but basically my house was pre wired for a wired alarm system and the electrician didn't do what I asked. I am left with back and front doors that have no cable run, and with the dry walling I think it is pretty impossible to get any cable to them. I have been considering an alarm like the Scantronic 9651 with the radio expansion module and two wirelss contacts for the doors. All other sensors will be wired and the cabling and fused spur exists in a cupboard. I need 6 X PIR + the usual battery, bell box etc. I have two cables installed for a hall RKP and bedroom RKP and am considering prox tags too. Can anyone please advise any other suitable systems? I am really annoyed that I have to use wireless after paying for a pre wire but I put it down to experience
Guest Oxo Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Galaxy G2-20 does all the above and can also text you. Then you could use fobs or radio transmitters to set/unset.
Monty Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Ion 40 will cover all you require or if you want to go one better M6oo with MR node www.AllanMoncrieffAlarms.com

arfur mo Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Risco G490 or the higher end G595 both have VoCom voice dialler built in abd digital communicators for later take over and monitoring.. both give 9 wired zones (if you count keypad zone), plus add on the radio expander and you get 8 radio zones + allows 8 radio fobs. like cars we all have our favourites and all are good kit - but i'd ask with full respects can you personally understand the engineers manual (considering when many engineers struggle with the terminology), and what happens if you can't, or having installed you get false alarms?. to be very honest unless you have messed with alarm panels before, you could save a lot of hair being removed and finger nail ends bitten getting in a company, its not just a case of sticking it on the wall, the design and programming element is also a sever learning curve, mainly due to the sophisticated levels of even the cheapest of today's panels.do you really want to go through this for a one off? you could buy some very good kit but not find a company ready to take it over = potential; for a lot of lost expense. hpotter Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 do you need the contacts on the door? If so, a competent alarm eng should be able to make a good job of it. the 9651 cant be expanded, wired or wireless, 9751 as james said, can. also make sure you get 9943 keypads if you want prox.
Alarm Protection Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I would go for the Gardtec 490x panel but s Arf says these are not easy to programme from a DIY point of view. If the cable is already there and spur etc i would suggest you get 3 quotes in from companies and take it from there. !
Guest Detached Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I have fitted two Scantronic wireless alarms in previous homes but went for a wired this time as I got fed up changing batteries! I am happy enough to program the Scantronic after looking at a manual but have no kowledge of the others. The reason why I think I need door contacts is that I can't see any way of setting the PIR's in hall and kitchen as entry/exit zones and still having an instant alarm from the same PIR's if anyone enters either area by a window. So my new question is can I use PIR's instead of door contacts in these areas?
