Adi Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 You should Always have a contact starting the E/E timer so yes you need the contacts. IAS says not, i did mean to ask then, we he posted that a couple of weeks back. OP, what batts were in the old PIRs, non lithium?? I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
arfur mo Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 imo a contact on the entry door (which don't have to be the outer door of a lobby) is normally preferable, i have walked tested and past pir's that did not detect me on occasions. contact gives a bit more for flexibility i.e. better allowing the hall pir to be off when guests are staying over and leaving some protection via the door contact also for 'auto part set' to work. Arfur If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
hpotter Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 The reason why I think I need door contacts is that I can't see any way of setting the PIR's in hall and kitchen as entry/exit zones and still having an instant alarm from the same PIR's if anyone enters either area by a window. Fair do's, you cant on any panel where you need access to the keypad. what you can do with the 9751 (not the 9651), is add a rfx expander and use telecommand (radio fob) to set/unset from outside (remember to change op2 to strobe set for visual conf set). So my new question is can I use PIR's instead of door contacts in these areas? You can but they will only start the timer (& you can vary times from both entrances). On new builds (excl bungalows) we dont fit contacts on doors (unless customer requests - see below) partly cos builders get it in neck from window firm ie void guarantee, and partly cos by the time we 2nd fix the cable got chewed by all coming and going. On cetain sites we get asked to fit contacts on front door by customer (after they have bought house, therefore no cable) because of the chime facility, many new doors kids can walk straight onto street as lock lever low level etc. As a rule we manage to hide wire hence my post Re competent eng..
Guest Detached Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 If I understand it correctly I could fit a 9751 and the radio expander and use PIR's only, and set the alarm with keyfobs from outside? I have a prewired point in the hall and one upstairs where I planned to fit RKP's. Should I abandon that idea and go for the remote fobs to do everything?
Guest Oxo Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 No, you will need at least one keypad, preferably the hall one.
james.wilson Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 You will need one keypad as oxo says. but you could still use the rd rob for everything. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
