I have the above on the ECP bus of my G2 44. As I'm continually adding things to the system I'm starting to worry about current consumption but in tallying everything up I couldn't find the current draw spec of the ECP expander?

Anyone know what it is by any chance or is it negligible?

In hindsight I should have just got a powered RIO instead which I'll probably end up doing as I have a whole bunch of M12s to fit.

G2 44 spec says MAX PSU load 1.4 A but "grade 2 rating 1.0 A". Shoulkd I get that RIO sooner than later?

cheers

btw - love the avatar lol! looks like my dentists.

i'd assume someone will know the stats, but any kit can be checked for current consumption by placing your meter in-line set on milli/amps. depends more on the spare capacity of the PSU afterpowering the main kit. allow some sensible margin for safety and calculating also how long the batt's will last/need for charging.

If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

I guess 80mA< ? simply measure it ?

should have been designed in 1st place, bear in mind a sab in alarm c/w strobe is the 500ma mark.....

Sorry for the late reply, been away for a bit.

The panel draw is 120ma which I included in the calculation. I was hesitant about measuring with a multimeter but after the advice here I shall give it a go. Any preference about putting it on the +ive or -ive side, I imagine not?

I hope your dentist doesn't use the same power tools in surgery...

Dont do gals, but this might help

if like scanny, would expect ok if just the one exp, but if you got more going down the line i'd fit the smart psu at suitable point along the line.

Thanks for the link HP.

you only need an intelligent power supply on graded jobs. If you need more power just add an additional power supply.

If you add an elmdene 1382N that will give another 2A

Thanks for that link James, that seems like a nice and simple (and less expensive!)solution.

As above, I will go and measure it.

The bell/strobe was catered for in the original design. The trouble is I keep adding stuff when I find something interesting, Masterblaster, M12s etc

Otherwise can you decipher 1.4A/1.0 grade 2? I assume I actually have 1.4A to play with.

Well I was just about to play around with some wires and quite by accident came upon the spec for the current draw of the ECP.

It is only 25mA but shall add a powered RIO all the same just to make sure.
