Mattyg2004 Posted August 19, 2010 Author Posted August 19, 2010 so your buying stripped out kit, maybe I move in the wrong social circles as most kit I remove is ready for the skip. Saying that I have reckon we have more of 2nd user IT stuff than new ? Social Circles I hope not .LOL Ebay. Can get some cracking deals I just won the panasonic wj-hd316A that still retails @ over £4000 http://www.wedgwood-group.com/panasonic_wj-hd316_digital_disk_recorder.htm wait for it £311. Now thats a bargain. I was buying it kinda for a friend but he's prob going to have the Mitsi now as he's not quite as willing as I am to learn how to use it. Wait for the "I cant work out how to use my pana 316" thread next week. I hope the 316 will keep me going until the ip machines hit the 2nd hand market.
Mattyg2004 Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 Got my wj-hd316 today nice looking unit nice menus. But why oh why is the recorded picture so terrible. All settings on High quality. Only 1 cam on all others turned off. and the picture is pixalated to hell. Live is good but recorded is terrible. I have changed the HDD just in case but still the same. Any Ideas. Before it goes back on ebay Matt

Before it goes back on ebay Matt looks like our learning the hard way Matt, if it looks to good to be true - it usually is. in general, while many DVR's are very good, you are unlikely to ever get the same quality from a recorded image as you will with a live image, changing the HDD is not going to increase picture fiddelity, as its not an anologue recording but a digital capture - think AM v FM radio Arfur If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
Mattyg2004 Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 Arfur. and Cubit...oh the Irony hey.lol The HDD was a long shot kinda hoping it was on its way out. I may also have made a schoolboy error. I'm using my pc monitor for live and playback. native resolution is 1920x1200. So that wont help. But there is a fair differance in quality, Especially compared to the cheaper mitsi. I'll be amazed if its faulty. I'll keep playing around with it. And I'll try it on a more suitable monitor. Also a bit dissapointed in the network quality. Amazed that the old model seems to be better.
james.wilson Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 if its a analouge unit, ie does not upsize its digital outputs then running it on a flat panel will always dissapoint. However you look at it 720x288 onto even 1024x768 is never gonna look good. You may be able to run it at D1 but you will run into interlace problems. Maybe thats why it was being sold. Brand choice is only part of the solution, we all know of some big name gear that is poor in all fields. Personally while i rate panasonic body cameras, thats about it securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
arfur mo Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Also a bit dissapointed in the network quality. Amazed that the old model seems to be better. nothiing to date will compare image wise with live viewing quality, because of bandwith issues networked images are send at lower definition. in practice most tf the time you just want to see a general picture, like if the MD's car is still there, not if there is a scratch on the wing mirror of a Skoda Estelle.. so networked image quality is often turned down in favour of faster sceen updates and/or simply to reduce the bandwidth overhead needed, the higher the res the more info is sent and it is tthat which up's the overheads. i don't know the menu layout or terminology on your kit, you may be able to tweek the image to a better quality of transmittion over your LAN/Internet, assuming you are happy to accept less frame updates. recorded quality usually can also be tweeked per camera, the lower the quality the longer the period retained, stick all cameras on D1 get about 2 days verses all on Lo Res and get weeks depending on hard drive size. in simple terms its a trade off between acceptable if not ideal level quaity v reording time, always based on the site requirements. Arfur If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
Mattyg2004 Posted August 24, 2010 Author Posted August 24, 2010 guys. Recording time is not an issue. I can upgrade the unit to 1TB and I have an HDD expansion unit coming. which will take to 3TB if needed it more image quality thats the prob. It will do 50ips total @field or 100ips SIF. And i can alter the quality.but that doesnt seem to make much differance in reality I know moving images will be jerky on lower ips but i'm having dificulty making a static image look good. I'm still playing though
