hpotter Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 went to takeover & upgrade (ish) an AIR (point to points) system today (5 poles, widest 100m apart) fitted panel & got 60vac earth to 0v, mains on, 40vac mains off (phase dissed on panel only). seems installed with cat5 running alongside mains armoured. systems working but will go back & filter everything. mains into panel get 10vac across neutral & earth. aint come across that high neither to any of the other readings? All readings seem manic. anyone seen similar or got ideas?

hpotter Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 Earth is fine, but to add a bit of info yatch club at the end of a caravan site. miles from anywhere. place has just closed for winter. on site sparks hadnt realised voltage gone up to 241vac (usually 220? - happly hols), not sure its relevent. two very large power stations nearby (supply London & local)) & connection to holland/france when power surge, not sure its relevent. Caretaker informs the agro always starts this time of year (no one mentioned at time of quote) pretty damn sure thats relevent. would of thought if earth rods, would dry out in summer (lol, what summer), not this time of year. (asside filled up at their local station & saw cx70 external connected to dvr (i assume), bleedin carrot....)
james.wilson Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Often are sensors like that outside. Reakon your gonna need some decent filtering. If temp run it on an apc ups. Before fitting use a pc and set its voltages tolerances really fine and fast response. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Guest Oxo Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Still, 10vac across earth neutral is too high. Supply change over has in the past to my knowledge caused a surge and FA`s. Again depends on type of earthing. Had a TS900 do all sorts of interesting things and had 8.2vac on earth to 0vdc, TS`s were very temperamental on this. Turned out a back door contact wired into the RKP ( RKP2) had been clipped by the carpet fitters. Dragging it down to ground.
james.wilson Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Afaik you will need an earth choke if thats as good as it gets. With a good ups it will help on the over as well as the under volts. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
hpotter Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 yer, gonna filter everything, never done an ups on a panel before, this place shuts down for winter so will think on that. damn right ox, i aint a sparks & reckon they could do with industrial sparks on site - think might be unkind but knobby aint up to it. not back there till next week, got a ccvt install in a specialist welding fabricators to do first- talking of induced ac...
Cubit Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Not unknown, with a bad earth involved, for the live to be slightly 'nicked' when spur/socket screwed back to wall. Doesn't necessarily have to be the one you're connected to either. On a metal cabinet the glow/volts stick often light up when put inside cabinet.
