I am looking to have a monitored (police response) alarm installed, so I obtained two quotes from local installers.

Both are wireless systems, with similar suggestions for where the PIR sensors etc should be placed.

One is centred around a Gardtec 595 panel, the other - Scantronic 9651 EN 40.

What are the relative merits of the two panels in terms of features, expandability, reliability and so on?

We always suggest a 3rd quote.

Some use one make, others another. As long as they comply Do WHAT YOU WANT THEM TO DO (As in the system). Then there should be no problems.

Get another quote, after all it is your money and home your using and protecting.

Ask about fees for monitoring, how long is the contract for that and servicing. Do you own the equipment?

What constitutes a chargeable call out. How much are the fees for this.

Is it a local well trusted firm or a national? With a local you should see the same engineers who know you and the system after it has been fitted.

Not knocking the nationals but they do have a higher turnover of employees.

Gardtec is the only one of the two that does the job IMO. They are fine, fitted 100's.

Where abouts are you? there may be somebody on here that can provide the third quote and a bit more information.

As above the 9651 wont take integrated wireless, not does it have a built in communicator. Might be a 9751?

Deciding on panels is a hard one. Like saying what is the best phone, car or operating system. Each have their merits. both are from respected manufactures but i personally wouldnt recommend either. Not that there is anything bad in that i just dont use them.

Installer choice is far far more important than equipment choice as even the best equipment can be installed and setup badly and if this happens inferiour equipment will outperform it.

You need to get like for like quotes, ie same performance spec, same inspectorate etc

Fitted a 595 today, it was the last one we had in stock and will be the last one we fit.

I would opt for a G2 - 12 / 20 anyday.

ive still got one on the shelf from over two years ago, might be double that.

Reckon i'll take a loss and fit it in place of a euro mini just to get rid.

I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.

think if knocking any make we need to say why as that is what the o/p is asking or say why you prefer you flavour over others.

inho no good reading a car is naff but not why so is said to, how many are as tall as Clarkson for instance?

Fitted GardTec for many years, with very few issues. design might not be the prettiest but near bullet proof panels, and why i stick with them.

We al have a our own prefference and rightly so, all i csn say is the firms that take mine ove for signalling often try other panels, but always seem to come back to GardTec, if only for the sheer reliability and versatility of their hybrid option.
