G0HWC Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Hi all, I hope someone may be able to help me with this. I run a mobile webcam as I drive my truck around the UK and am looking for a decent camera to use. I have got a composite to USB adaptor on order so now just need a decent camera. My cam points out the screen of my truck so needs to be able to handle the sun. Nothing too pricy ) Paul http://www.truckcam.tv Live video from my truck http://www.truckcam.tv My Ham radio hobbie http://www.g0hwc.com
Guest Oxo Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Virtually any cam will do as you ask. A bullet cam sounds about right for this as it is smaller than most. IIRC correctly large tin boxes run 24vdc. So remember to step down the supply voltage, or do they have a 12vdc output now ( been years since I was a nusicence in my dads lorry!). Perhaps one of these front and back? http://www.henrys.co.uk/cctv/rearview.htm bullet cams Just using Henry`s as a reference. Sure there is other stuff out there. I just happen to know they are reasonable and sell to the public. Also remember most DVRs run @ 12vdc so you could hook one up and have lots of fun with a few cams on the truck. PS the helo link was dire 4 blokes in a field and no flying...............much perfer my m8ts option, he test flys real helos and I get free botty rendering flights! Still to master my RC one, and its a toy, not the real deal type.
james.wilson Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Most cameras will have issues with direct sunlight. There are cams designed for trocks etc. I think genie have a range. arfur mo Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 pecan have a camera with SD card recorder built in it records inside and outside has GPS too http://www.pecancctv...Data%202010.pdf have to say this looks good kit, my son (who is a licenced caby) will be very interested. how cheap? think might be to expensive for o/p if same sort of price as others of this idea.. i use a unit bought off ebay £60 in my van, mainly for the nutters who cause you to have an accident then drive off, called 'the black box' good wide angle, auto start on ignition, records onto SD with time/date, video out socket (to my radio which has a vie cam option). good pictures in reasonable light but not so hot at night on dark roads, no IR use it on my scooter when out and about (Honda Silverwing 600 - not push ) Arfur If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
G0HWC Posted October 24, 2010 Author Posted October 24, 2010 Thanks for all the replies. I don't need a recording cam, just a good quailty cam that I can fit inside my cab looking out of the front screen that will not get bleached out by the sun and be good in the dark too. Some sort of optical zoom would be good too. I Now I use a Logitac 600 webcam and this is good in the dark and bright sun light but looking for something a little better. Something with auto iris with comp video out, This will connect direct with my comp to USB adaptor on the PC and the flash video streamer will do the rest. Guest Oxo Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Do me a favour, nip up to Cromer and get me a few fresh crabs............
digitalwitness Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 As jameswilson has said, I dunno will any camera "handle the sun" in the way required, just like yourself it will require some sort of sun visor protection to at least have a chance to perform (either by positioning or made visor). Your best bet is to look for a WDR cam, make sure its true WDR not Digital WDR, these are designed to handle bright and dark areas within the same picture but have their limits lol, good for roads that are shaded on a bright day and being able to get a low light one should not be too much bother either. Usually a wide angle is required >90 degrees but watch out for fisheye effect, I don't think resolution is much of a concern as you are using it for streaming anyways (probably at a low resolution to get decent frame rates). There are many cameras that may suit if size and viewing angle are not too important.
mikef Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Are you going to be mounting the camera inside or outside? if your after something thats good at handling the sun chose a camer with wide dynamic range WDR Thanks for all the replies.
