james.wilson Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 ABCP has teamed up with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) to provide degree level courses for partnership crime managers and any other people who work with partnerships or who wish to improve their professional knowledge through a university qualification.UCLan is one of the largest universities in the country, employing high calibre staff and attracting students from all backgrounds worldwide. The Crime Reduction Unit is based within the School of Forensic and Investigative Sciences which is the largest school of its kind in the UK, offering a diverse range of programmes in forensic investigation, policing and criminal investigation, forensic sciences and fire safety engineering. The Crime Reduction Unit has been working with ABCP to develop practical and academic qualifications which will enable partnership crime managers to acquire the additional skills they need to help in raising and maintaining standards of partnership management. BCRPs are important players in the community safety arena and, as such, the manager’s role should be recognised alongside other community safety professionals. The courses have been designed by practitioners, people who have worked in crime reduction and community safety environments and have firsthand knowledge of the day to day problems you might face. They are administered by the CRU within the School of Forensic and Investigative Sciences at UCLan, but will be taught off site at various locations across the UK. The school has strong links with the Forensic Science Service, the Crown Prosecution Service and various crime scene investigation departments and police forces in the North West of England and elsewhere in the U.K. Liaison with the North West Fraud Forum and ABCP has also provided significant input into the course design, development and delivery. The role of the school, in general, and this course of study, in particular, is to enhance knowledge, understanding and application of legislation and practice in respect of business crime reduction in England and Wales. These short courses will provide both academic and practical exposure to business crime issues and has been designed to focus on the knowledge and skills required by practitioners to work within a business crime reduction partnership environment. The Certificate in Business Crime Reduction has been designed to provide students with a working understanding of basic principles, processes and tools to enable them to recognise, assess and address security risks within and around the working environment. The Certificate in Partnership Working for Business Crime Reduction has been designed to provide students with a working understanding of various techniques for engaging business to work in partnership for crime reduction. It will further equip students with an understanding of the benefits of adopting a problem solving approach to the issues surrounding crime reduction for the business community and also includes appropriate legislative information governing the processes involved. The Certificate in Managing the Business Crime Reduction Partnership has been designed to provide students with a working understanding of the management role within working in partnership for business crime reduction. What the job is about; what they are responsible for and the protocols, processes and procedures for managing and promoting an integrated and cost effective business crime reduction partnership. Each course will require a minimum of 30 hours of study and research, and the submission of written documentation. Courses will be delivered at a number of venues across the country and can be offered on a part time basis. The cost for each certificate will be £350 and the courses are intended to be made available to students from mid January, 2011. Each certificate course will carry 20 credits at level 4. These credits are valid anywhere in Europe and therefore it will also be possible to use these credits on other external university programmes.
