Cp8L Bell Sounding When Cold

Hello,

I have a CP8L installed in a newish house (about 4 years old now). Over the last week all the bell boxes (I don't know the make I'm afraid) on the street have been going off at regular intervals in the night and stopping again when it warms up. Am I right in thinking that this is probably the backup battery in the bell box giving up? I had the cover off last night and the battery read around 10v, it says 8.4v so it seemed healthy, at the time it wasnt sounding but it was going off this morning.

If it is the battery then where is the best place to buy them, I tried Maplin as there is a store locally but they don't seem to stock them. If it isn't the battery then any idea what it could be?

Also on the CP8L is there a way to stop the tamper going off whilst I work on it? I have the engineers code, if I leave it in the engineers menu does this stop the tamper?

Thanks

Cpl8 is Gardtec Risco, whoever likely bought the panel as a kit so siren very likely Gardtec Nova.

there was an issue with needing a resistor installed 2k2 iirc between +VE and S to bias off GardTec sirens better.

Could be the severe cold recently has just accentuated the problem with damp air or condensation.

Tampers are disabled once panel is correctly in engineer mode, be careful as very easy ti alter a vital setting. if any personal attack buttons (if fitted) are operated the sirens will still sound while in engineer mode,

4 years on installing a new standby battery would make very good sense, rated life 3.- 5 years.

Arfur,

Thanks for your reply very helpful. The Gardtec Nova does look like the bell box, is there an easy way to tell if this resistor is needed?

I'll need to find a place to supply the battery then, any guidance on what would be a fair price? Would a local security company be the best place to try?

There are no personal attack button set, just a basic install. The installation manual for the panel is awful, doesn't explain what the settings do so I doubt I'll risk changing anything!

Thanks again

Just to keep this up to date with my findings.....

The file name for the chirping fix is Nova_ga_scan_track_cut.pdf which suggests to me that I need to cut a track on the PCB. Does anyone have the details as to how to do this?

I found some info on the 2k2 resistor but that seems to be related to using the bellbox with a panel from another manufacturer: http://www.rokonet.com/newsite/dynamicdata/flash/RTB0013_New_Nova_Bell_Resistors_June09.pdf

Decided to register as I made a few posts. I spoke to technical support at Risco and they emailed me through the modification document :) No idea why they password protect it if they'll email it out to anyone. I'll be giving it a try later today....

Thanks for comming back, if you go to the siren disconnect the battery and power to it before you cut the board.

The strobe berated very high voltages, might not kill direct, but collision with the ground could ;).

Best advice have it serviced and let the insurers man do it

Thanks for the warning, I'll be sure to wear some rubber gloves to hopefully avoid a collision with the ground! The instructions seem pretty straight forward so I'll be giving it a go during my lunch. We had environmental health round this morning about it. There were about 6 or 7 alarms on our road all sounding this morning. Very loud and very hard to sleep through! Problem is that even if I fix mine I'm pretty sure a lot of my neighbours wont......
