arfur mo Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Check first, prudent fir engineer ti have siren, but unless a real reason the one you have should be ok with the mod if done properly He may say keep it at your own risk, which is fair enough as it will be and he is just being professional, and not so easy to do up a ladder after dark. Guest Googley Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Well they havent arrived and I had a tel. call to tell me how to disconnect the battery from the panel and leave the bell ringing for 20 mins which they hope will shut it down until they have the time to send an engineer. Have done it just to try and have peace tonight but now leaves me without an alarm which luckily I do not go out much but maybe we will all get some sleep tonight!! THat wont work, tell the muppets not to bother, get a proper firm in. Dont let them fob you off with a new sounder, tell them to mod it as per drawing and it will be fine. I've done this mod before, it works. Done one last friday, charged at 89+vat but included a service while i was there. To all - dont risco have any comeback due to 'not fit for purpose' bells?? I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
Guest Oxo Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Nope......as far as I know. Had the same with Honeywell when their top engineer blew up my 520. But after a lot of pressure we got a few freebies.

alterEGO Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 the boxes are years old now, we use Risco bells, but not the NOVA 2, however many aound here do, we have replaced 3 in the last few weeks. That batch were cheap and nasty, even the LEDS went to fast lol. I won't use their fix, just get a quote for a new Bell. Sorry we are in manchester, try here http://www.ssaib.info/searchdefault.aspx
Guest bruce Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 There appears to be an inherent design defect with a batch of Risco Gardtec Nova 2 bell boxes which causes the box to chirp when temperatures go below -5degc. Risco are aware of this and modigied the design. As their literature states it was suitable for all environments, which it plainly isn't, then its not fit for purpose. Bell boxes should have a life span of over 15 years. Logically you should ask the installer to replace the defective goods (its not a warranty issue so the 12-24 months or whatever warranty given is irrelevant). If he doesn't i think you can take him to the small claims court as the goods are not "fit for purpose". I've just agreed with my alarm co that as mine is 3year 9monthe old i'd pay for a new bell box (Hunter Wholesales do them for 36quid). mainly cause i didn't want the hassle. Hope this helps.
