james.wilson Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Nope. Not a bad idea though. I'll stop then, just its a 70 odd zone wireless with 10 on board hard wired, speech at keypads, speech dialer, sms and proper multi format digi, links, dimension like flexibility and power, for less than a g2 galaxy securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.

arfur mo Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I don't disagree Arf re the pro installer but what the useable range of a watch out? usually 15 meters, wired dualtec is quoted best range as 23m (75ft) 5° using long range lens, why i said four needed for one fence and the OP's spend will dictate. imho could workout a lot cheaper than geofone vibration type installation, if we said to buy retail about £145.00 + VAT each, the cabling has to be added. Go with radio whic are quad IR, then as no cable invoved can be far cheaper on labour against anything wire based. like i said straight of, many ways to skin this particular 'cat', depends on the site, the OP's budget and the experience and astutness of the installer. another option is those announcer detectors, that give out audiable spoken warnings, ideal for car lots, just depends on the actual needs most of us can quote a fancy system based on their preferred flavour of kit, all would simply blow O/P's socks off. i could quote with the agility or Prosys, with dial in operation to switch it on/off or part set all from his mobile phone, whch he can do from anywhere in the world also having more than enough keycaller location, or use a radio fob, but will he want to pay a pro installer to have it done 'right' is another matter entirely. best example of this, electrical firm i did a lot of work for, decided to save on the cost of my services for a 'simple' job, client required remote control of fountain and coloured lights, but asked for this after the new patio was laid. big big client of theirs, what he wanted he got no expense spared. their 1st idea was to fit a ruddy great box with weatherproof switches, this would be both ugly and need the freshly laid patio being dug up again to lay an armoured cable. So their master electrician looks in alarm an catalougue, and orders scantronic 8 channel receiver 'with the required buttons'. assure's client all will be done with no disturbances to patio, poodle toting wife now becalmed again - untill they gave them 8 panic buttons to go wih it. he had thought they would be on the lid of what ever controlled it, he did not realise they controlled only low current . SOS is received to go into their office, i'm expecting to quote of plans for a CCTv or Door Entry system, sheepish faces abound as i'm told the story - and pmsl i must admit. ended up i modified one transmitter into a generic hand held box, altered the channels by using a multi pole rotary switch, installed a push button, which when pressed the channel as set, switched on and off. Their once Mr Angry client is over he moon, chavvy essex car dealer (imagine Boyce'y) type from Hornchurch complete with naff shell suit. He was so proud of his inique 'toy' which was portable, way aboveewhat he thought he would get. i was paid £1000.00 not to offer it to anyone anywhere else in Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk or the home counties for 5 years - that was 20 years ago, only ever did one other since . what would have been a heck of a lot cheaper had i, or any other capable and resourceful alarm engineer could do, f brought in early enough. like i say again, many ways to skin this 'cat', but whoever needs to go there first to see. Arfur If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
james.wilson Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 i like the theory of watchouts but the range is too restrictive. Id agree that Active beams are the way to go, ie takex (old pulnix) 100m quad beams are about £160 a set securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Driller Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Where are you OP, have you decided anything yet? Very interesting stuff this. Cost aside, what are the various merits of IR beams vs discrete external PIRs?

Driller Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 effictiveness I can imagaine they are more stable and less prone to temp changes etc but what about immunity to cats and other animals, is it any better with beams?
norman Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 double bank as a minimum, positioned correctly they offer far superior protection yes Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
Guest Oxo Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Active beams are virtually impossible to trip with birds and small mammels. Foxes ect.
