james.wilson Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 A fire broke out in a care home for the elderly last night (December 16th), causing residents to be evacuated. All houses in multiple occupation (HMO) and businesses, including care homes, must carry out a thorough fire risk assessment to comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. A fire risk assessment is especially important when people dealing with vulnerable customers or occupants, such as the elderly. The people were evacuated in the middle of the night from the care home based in the Hampshire village of Rowlands Castle, reports local newspaper the News. Seventeen firefighters from three different fire stations were called to the blaze and extinguished it within ten minutes, the regional news outlet reports. The firefighters - from Havant, Horndean and Emsworth - checked all of the residents and employees. They treated one member of staff on-site for smoke inhalation. The conflagration started when a tumble dryer caught fire in the building's laundry room. from here securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
