gimpster Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Thank you for the info on gardtec. I have just been looking at there website and was impressed. What ball park figure cost wise to replace my rs 125 to the gardtec 595 using a professional install? Or would I be better with the 480 Or 490 series. The alarm was professionally installed in my house so hopefully most of the wiring should be reusable it's just the main board that's been playing up of late. Again many thanks for all your help and advise
arfur mo Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I would not price without a visit, system is also 15 years old in design, your needs will likely have changed considerably, I could as easily over sell as under if you de what I mean. 480 is good basic panel, but not enough zones for your needs 490 is fine, has a vocom communicator which if connected can call 4 numbers on activation, can be expanded so would be a direct replacement option I prefer the G595 also has the vocom but for the additional features it offers me as an engineer, these days my base panel of choice. Best ti have 3 quotes most companies if not all do so for free, might be tedious but don't tell reps what any other companies suggest, that way you can better judge who offers you the most informed, best service and design. Check the warranties and service charges, having a contract don't mean you have comprehensive Insurrance. You can for instance with some companies be charged for out of hours calls, and they can be expensive. Not a knock as it's usually clearly in the T&C's just if not to often read by the client, they get an unexpected bill, it sours the relationship. Post your area members nearby may offer to quote Arfur If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
gimpster Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Thanks Arfur I see Adi is local to me so will get in touch and see what he thinks. The system I have was installed by a security express engineer who owned the property before me. I have had the property for 10 years now and he has helped out when the keypads went belly up but that was about 5 years ago. It is about time it was updated and I'm interested in the option of having it dial out if it's activated. Many thanks for all your help I must say that this site is excellent and I have been very impressed with the level of support you have all offered
Adi Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 My 10 pence worth. the 595 is OTT. The 490x would be a better choice. The existing panel is only 8 zones, so its possible that all devices are not wired back to panel on seperate zones, so unless them zones are to be re-cabled, any 8 zone panel will do - euro mini for me, (yes i know its 10) unless client wants speech dialler. I would also offer quote for upgrade of detection and bell due to overall age of the system, if one part of the system is failing, how long for the rest does?? Think that's the full 10 pence I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.

Think that's the full 10 pence agreed G595 OTT, forme stock costs so i reduce models carried and so the price of it, as you said siren ect may be shot to we can't really offer a price 'ad hoc' unseen, Arfur //do i get commission?// If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
