james.wilson Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 A fire detection and alarm system has been praised this week after it notified fire services to an incident in sheltered housing in Hertfordshire. The automatic fire alarm sounded after an elderly resident had tried to clean a flannel by boiling in it water. The water had boiled dry, which sent smoke billowing out of the kitchen, reports the St Albans Review. Local fire crews were called to Cecil Crescent - the sheltered accommodation centre in Hatfield, Hertfordshire - at 10.30 on Wednesday January 5th. Steve Duncan, watch commander at Hatfield Fire Station, told the news provider that the services were on the scene in time and there was no danger. "[The resident] was boiling the flannel in a saucepan … and smoke-logged the kitchen. She was a bit embarrassed by it but she was fine," he said. Fire services around the country re-emphasised the importance of working fire alarms this Christmas period, when many people - especially the elderly - are at risk. from securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
