james.wilson Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 A national pub chain has been ordered to pay a large fine after one of its London-based establishments was found to be in breach of fire regulations. In 2008, fire officers found a litany of fire regulation breaches at Punch Taverns' Milestone pub in east London; including inadequate maintenance of fire alarms and poor emergency lighting. The company was fined £8,500 for the breaches and ordered to pay £18,981 in legal costs, after the landlord failed to implement changes in the time given by fire officers. All commercial properties must conduct a fire risk assessment or risk being prosecuted. Punch Taverns were charged under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Steve Turek, assistant commissioner for fire safety regulation at the London Fire Brigade, warned businesses of the consequences of not following fire regulation. "London Fire Brigade will continue to take action when businesses, large or small, do not take their fire safety responsibilities seriously," he said. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Responsible Person of an establishment can face up to two years in jail. link securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
