james.wilson Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 well i dont think it should be reopened. as it will drift again. If i could split the topic i would but the op has replied to 1 on topic message and also an off topic. Im sure the op will open a new and RELEVANTLY titled topic. Yes i / we do let threads drift but id rather they didnt and these issues IMO need seperate threads to explore the issues. As the op describes the system has issues as well as being non compliant. But its too messy to have 4 or 5 things in one thread. ok ill split out the relevant posts and re open securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Guest Oxo Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 As other threads have been culled to death I feel you should re-open this. There have been no insults, ony people trying to assist.
james.wilson Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 agreed no insults. But splitting it out was difficult so i was trying to make it flow better. As most of you that have commented feel it should be opened i have split off the non dualcom issues into a new adt thread. I have reopened the other thread but im guessing it will drift again. We should be hotter on dealing with 1 issue per thread on the public side thats all im saying securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
MrHappy Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 personally this is no more than an extension to dualcom thread, merge & retitled "new pro installed alarm issues" would seem sensible to me ? Mr Veritas God
Guest Oxo Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Sorry I disagree. OP might post and then bring other issues in. Is it really expected for someone to open several threads? One and let it continue is the best way I believe. I have the distinction of starting a thread in 2005 and it is still going strong. It wanders and meanders all the time. You want a fair and informative forum here for the general public, then let them ask all on one thread.
Adi Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 why?, so what if we answer more than 1 question in 1 thread, if the thread ends up discussing things different to topic title, so what. Its all relative to the OP's system. As said, no insults or slagging people off, so for me - leave the thread alone I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
james.wilson Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 im sorry but i dont agree. in a perfect world it should be 1 topic per thread. As you know i dont like closing threads as a rule as i think if a thread remains on topic it should be allowed to flow for ever. However the thread in question was titled and was about to start with a question on protction of the panel / dualcom etc. It then changed direection into a topic that imo deserved its own topic. for instance if a member of the public was searching the forum for problems on part set would they look at a thread titled 'dualcom issues'? thats my point. but the thread has been reopened and split into 2 topics. I do feel we should be hotter at having single issues per thread, but accept it isnt easy. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Guest Oxo Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 A simple search with the SEARCH button would direct someone to the topic. Sorry James your wrong in this instance.
james.wilson Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 have you used the tsi search function? Im prepared to listen but currently i dont agree. Forum etiquette is that its 1 topic per thread IF the thread has a tight title (ie single issue) if the title says problems then it could be qallowed to drift slightly, but its better for more accurate searching that the title is accurate and mainly only that item is dealt with. Else its just a big chatroom without structure. Be like having a pir question in the bellbox section. needs moving etc securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
