amateurandy Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 One problem with maintenance is that, as several people have pointed out, it is much more than that. It's a service that provides much else besides. Personally I'm in the computer business and this has the same problem. But some suppliers have solved it by splitting down their services and calling them by slightly different names, e.g.: Maintenance - fixes when broken with no guarantee of response time Enhancements - provides improvements and updates Support - responds to "events" or incidents, usually inside a specified time Enhanced support - faster and/or better Suport On-site support - send someone round instead of just talking on the phone etc. etc. OK the parallel isn't perfect, but you get the idea. Maybe you guys should do that, pricing accordingly, so that your customers understand what they're paying for and that they can pay less, but get less. And breaking down a large bill into several smaller items can make it more palatable to the payer.
