james.wilson Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 A landlord has been given a community order and sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid work after being convicted of eight fire regulation breaches. Laszlo Banky, the landlord of a house of multiple occupancy in Scarborough, was convicted of offences including having inadequate fire detection equipment and doors which were not fire resistant, reports the Scarborough Evening News. The landlord of a guest house in the North Yorkshire town was also given the sentence for failing to apply for the correct council license. However, Andy Skelton, head of environmental services at Scarborough Council, has told the news provider that the sentence was too light. "In this particular case, the nature of the offences was serious enough to warrant a much greater sentence and landlords should not take this warning lightly," he said. If landlords of houses in multiple occupancy do not conduct a fire risk assessment to negate possible fire hazards, they can face up to two years in prison. from securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
