What Setup Would I Need In A Shop With Flat Above?

Hi everyone,

This is my first post since joining, im Chris owner of Hennessy Fire & Security in Bristol.

Im a bit unsure of what fire protection i need in a customers shop and flat premisis. I visited a customers ground floor shop today with flat above the shop which he is going to start letting out to tennats. At present he has a very very old and faulty 1 zone conventional panel which is fitted in the shop and this has bells throuout the shop and also one in hallway of the flat above.

I wondering what the correct setup would be for todays standards. I wast to fit automatic fire detection in the flat in form of Mains opperated smoke detectors and update the fire alarm, smoke detection and bells in the shop and one in the hallway of the flat. Would this be acceptable?

I hope this makes sence. Any help would be appreiciated.

Thanks. Chris.

We dont do part 6 systems so ii wouldnt do it like that.

Id install part 1 in all areas. Easiest way would be to use a twinflex panel  etc and then detection in the relevant areas.

What category does the Risk assessment call for?

..or a HAES with Apollo detection!

Is there shared access to the flat or does it have it's own staircase?

Has it been a cheapo conversion or has it proper fire compartmentization?

Thanks for the replys, unfortunatly the owner hasnt had a risk assesment yet, i will advise him of this. The shop and flat i belive was designed like this from the begining. It has its own dedicated staircare and front door incl fire exit to the rear.

Is there any rules about installing a repeater panel in the flat to allow the users to sillence the alarm if there is a false alarm set off in the shop and vice versa?

How would the flat tenant know it was a false alarm? There could be a smouldering fire in a position impossible to see from outside.

They'd be only silencing the bells, not resetting but there is an issue with this - if the tenant is a deep sleeper and the shop silences it then what??

weve had this before 9 times out of ten the panel goes in flat side in the hallway with the shop having

keys.have also had it with two panels using class change so they can only silence there own bells not

the others!lot of hassle tho

agreed with the haes panel there great
