reidy Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Fitted an Alien 516 back in 2009, personally thought it was cack - was very glitchy when in use Ended up replacing it with an Adata apollo in the end, customer loved it Hey Ho, Lets Go
jmsjabb Posted April 8, 2011 Author Posted April 8, 2011 My problem is I need something to cover for the neighbour, but I don't have funds for the latest and greatest. Ebay will give me a chance of a good unit, which is a few years down the line in terms of fancy this and that, for a decent price. I am finding the Alien coming up all the time, but so many seem to have an opinion, both good and bad. SystemQ, I would be looking at something a couple of years old, something like the Prolite 4 input. Is the suggestion Alien kit was not that good in that era, but the latest kit is good? Really, all I want is a simple recorder with good recorded pic quality
Rulland Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 As per Digitalwitness-any cctv system is only be as good as the weakest link, no good having hi res cams but viewing on a crappy low res monitor etc-need more input-I feel a film coming on!. Hi Adi. To be honest I don’t think the remark is totally fair as you had a basic budget model from 2008. If I demonstrated the 2011 AlienUltra to you its hard to tell the difference between live images and playback as the record quality is that good. Sure, the model you bought in 2008 is not as good as you want, I don't doubt that from your comment, but it does not mean that the current models do not offer performance you and others would want. As they are currently being specified by many High Street retailers and councils after trials against “traditional” brands, they obviously have impressed some very senior, diligent corporate buyers. Could I arrange a demonstration for you and you post your honest remarks about the current range? , Paul. Nice honest gesture-I'm impressed.

The Alien516 menus were a little dated remaining unchanged from its launch in 2007. Many installers requested a re-vamp so the whole end-user interface was re-written in 2010 to be far more intuitive and the 516 was replaced with the AlienUltra. The new menu system was applied to quite a few models such as the Prolite. The new menu system has been pretty well received and it's popularity has actually caused us to unfortunately sell out this month of the AlienProlites and AlienPods! (stock in shortly) We do have a guy on the road so if you would like to see the new menu system just PM me. , Paul. System Q Ltd.

The inference being, the menu has improved so much.... Rather than just saying you don't have any in stock - again, but they will be back in again from (whenever)

It was just a remark that the user interface has totally changed (from the earlier models) and received very well by those who use it. We obviously always try to avoid of running out of any products and carry between 1000 & 2000 DVRs at any one time. From time to time a certain DVR will get specified on a large job and combined with a generally busy month it is possible for us to run short of a particular DVR. I must admit we don’t find it easy to forecast sales of each item as some component lead times are between 6 and 12 weeks and we do get the forecast wrong from time to time which I apologise for. , Paul.
