macwillis Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 , ive recently moved companies and now working for a company thats just started doing security systems. in my old employment we used cable crimps and we used to call them bomb tails. there a white crimp that just crimps onto the ends of stranded cables. but i cant seem to find them anywhere. does anyone know their propper name. also we used "Jellys" bt will use them alot and other cat 5 type cables, the ones we had were orange and just crimped down with a pair of snips. any help would be great, if you had a supplier of them aswell i would be very greatful. -Willis-

PSE Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I have used these myself for all intruder installations, Tamper wiring etc.. Must have gone through thouands of them over the last 15 years, When i first started out I was given a massive box full of them from a supplier. After running out I searched everywhere myself and could not find them. I managed to locate some a few weeks ago, sadly not as cheap as RS prices.... Thanks for the info and the link..
MrHappy Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 ive found the jellys there called 8A connectors or something. or are they rated for 8 Amps ? Mr Veritas God
alterEGO Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I have used these myself for all intruder installations, Tamper wiring etc.. What happens if you want to stick your meter across a pair? I got board of all these things and just use terminal block as and when.
PSE Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 You can easily access the metal crimp area with your probes, should you need to measure anything, I've never had any issues with them. Its down to engineer preference really, both will do the same thing however i am very strict on clean and very well terminated wiring on panels with clear cable markers. Connector blocks for me is a no, looks too untidy for me. I know there will be plenty that will disagree but thats just me being very particular with panel wiring, I've seen enough untidy panels to last me a lifetime. Regards
