Guest sparc07 Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 Hi I've decided to install my own alarm . Have worked in electronics and completing my electricians exam now ). Have had in the past a two alarm comapnaies around who conflicted on what is the best alarm to use basically the equipment ( but did suggest that I might want to install my own to keep the cost down ) . As I have a medium size dog I know I need 4 "Dual Tech Pet Freindly PIR's and normal Dual tech for the locked living Room . I want to communicator to dial me on a problem and have been recommeded the Veritas 8 + or the Guardtec 593 for the Panel , Any ideas on the which is the best and where can I purchase the equipment from ?. On checking the reviews they seem to come out both all ok ( was not sure if the Guardtech had a proper remote keypad ). Any advise will be helpful ?.
Guest dale Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 The Texecom VR8+ only has output to connect a communicator to, it does not have an inbuilt modem so you would need to install a speech dialler. The 593 does have a built in modem, but lacks dial-in and listen facility. The RKP for the 593 is much nicer than the VR8+. But the Texecom Exel has a nice RKP, but again lacks modem. It would be better to put the dog in the kitchen during the day and have that sensor omitted rather than having "pet sensors", as (according to some engineers) they aint much cop! D
breff Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 Pet sensors are pooh, fit vipers or impaqs to the windows. The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct! (Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)
Guest RICHL Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 Agreed, pet sensors are poo - do a perimeter system, it will be a much better job. Have had in the past a two alarm comapnaies around who conflicted on what is the best alarm to useThere is no one "best" alarm as the systems are modular and we all have our favourite bits of equipment, depending on our own experiences of using various bits. Basically, no two systems are the same.but did suggest that I might want to install my own to keep the cost down Didnt they want to work for you?

The gardtec I agree it the better control panel although it will only signal to an alarm receiving centre with the built in Modem. If you wish to receive a pre-recorded message or text message to a mobile phone you will need a speech dialler. The menvier SD1+ is very good and I believe they make a version that sends SMS text. Texicom also makes the same type of unit but I can not comment as we have never used one. Trade Member
Guest sparc07 Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Someone told me thats its possible to get a None Pet Sensor and tape out the lower spines of the detector . As the dogs old and wont be here for ever they suggested this so that it could be fully used later .. Is this true and a good idea ?. And what does guardtec need for me to be able to purchase a panel ( if I can work as a contractor in electrcial area then what stops me getting a unit - just curious ).
Guest RICHL Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 what stops me getting a unit An account. Re- the PIR, if the mut's getting on in years then I see your point about a temporary job and instate it fully in future. Just remember that blanking off parts of the lens is removing protection, so think very carefully about positioning and the likely path of an intruder before you go this route.
Mister_Dave Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 The gardtec 581 and the detection systems 840 tri techs ( v good in my house , have a german shepherd and 3 cats, never had a FA ) are available from RS components . Not too expensive either. Dave Oxendale York based security systems engineer.
