kst101 Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 There is a Concept 6 alarm in the house I rent. Came back in a little while ago and the alarm is going off, although there are no lights on the keypad and nothing I press has any effect. Have seen from another thread on here that it could be connected to the earlier thunderstorm. How can I switch it off - the noise is driving me a little mad! And I am living up to the stereotype of somewhat useless female so any suggestions need to remember that! I have found a box in the attic with Concept 6 on that has a red light so presume something works somewhere but just want the noise to stop! Thank you for any suggestions.
kst101 Posted August 3, 2011 Author Posted August 3, 2011 Have flicked the switch on the electricity panel (not good with the technical terms here) that says security system and the red light on there has gone off. But still noisy. Am concerned about the sign in there saying DANGER and 240v as would prefer not to electrocute myself. Noise has now got even more high pitched but possibly wavering a little. Which part in the box upstairs should I try and do something too (or should I just get used to the noise, put in ear plugs and call the letting agent tomorrow?)

If the system is the house owners responsibility, he may call the installation company to repair. Sounds like a fuse has blown, external sounder should stop after 20 minutes.

But I have managed to stop everything (involving the external one going off as well) by switching the power off to the alarm in the attic, disconnecting the battery (which made the external alarm go off) and then the keyboard worked again and now there is quiet Will get in touch with the letting agent tomorrow - the problem is that I don't have contact details for the house owner. Will make sure I have contact details to use in an emergency from now although am quite pleased I managed to stop the noise. And grateful for this forum being here as a previous thread helped a lot.

Yes it could be the lightening but my guess is that the system is poorly maintained. Having provided you with a system the owner of the property should have made sure that the system was in good working order, which would involve an annual inspection the same as the gas. We do quite a lot of work for letting agents and to be quite frank my advice to you would be push for an upgraded system (Concept is an old system) or if you dont intend to use it push for it to powered down (switched off completely). Thank you for the advice - I've been here over a year and it hasn't ever been serviced in that time so that at least is overdue. At least I have stopped the noise though
