Finn Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Evening. Joined the forum to ask an experts advice please! Our house has a visonic powermax plus wireless alarm system. The wireless outdoor siren kept giving false alarms so I have replaced it with an odyssey 5 hard wired siren. I have the 6 core cable connected to the siren but I'm unsure what wires connect to what terminals on the powermax plus control panel. I was wondering if somebody could assist please before I fuse something! The wiring and contact terminals I have are as follows Odyssey 5 sounder - A 12v +ve B bell -ve C tamp D 0v S strb -ve On the control panel the terminals are labelled -Hold EXT INT +12v +12v PGM Also where does the 6 th wire go?? Many thanks in advance
magpye Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Also where does the 6 th wire go?? It doesn't go anywhere. The 12v + (pos) is common to both the sounder & strobe. Usually an internal connection at the module your connecting to. 6th wire, spare. Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.
Finn Posted August 28, 2011 Author Posted August 28, 2011 Hi. Thanks for your reply. Appreciate that. Er do you know where the other cables attach to? The sounder instructions have 12v+VE supply - red wire -VE bell - blue wire -VE tamper. -yellow wire 0V -black wire -VE strobe -green wire On the powermax plus control panel they connect to -Hold EXT INT +12V +12V PGM But not sure which goes to which
james.wilson Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 12v+VE supply - red wire xx +12v -VE bell - blue wire xx EXT -VE tamper. -yellow wire 0V -black wire xx -Hold -VE strobe -green wire xx EXT But you wont have a tamper. You will have to use one of the zones for the sounder tamper if you want one, (you do) securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Finn Posted August 29, 2011 Author Posted August 29, 2011 Thanks guys. Will see how I get on with that.
Finn Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 Quick update. Using your wiring advice above, the alarm is working just fine. Many thanks. Next problem!!!!!!! It only works when I gave up and disconnected the tamper loop! I connected the wiring as 12v+ to 12v+ VE bell to EXT OV to hold VE strobe to INT When I then connected the 5th wire to the zone 30 connection ( with resistors as per instructions) the control panel was displaying trouble messages and wouldn't arm. When I removed all wiring to zone 30 the alarm works fine again!!!! When it was armed I tried various tests. All sensors including door, triggered alarm siren and strobe Removing the control panel from it's mount whilst armed triggered alarm siren and strobe Unscrewing alarm cover screw triggered alarm siren and strobe Pulling the plug on control panel triggered alarm siren and strobe Can anybody explain exactly what the tamper loop on this system actually does????!!!!!!! MODERATORS - after posting the original question I discovered the DIY forum. If this post needs moved there then please let me know or move it if necessary.
james.wilson Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 did you set the zone to the required wiring option, ie dual eol (i assumed you wired it this way) might be easier to connect the sab tamper return to a relay and wire the contacts into the circuit as some panels dont like +ve voltage on their inputs. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
itesecurity Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 When you say "Pulling the plug on control panel", do you mean the AC mains to the panel, if so the siren/strobe should not activate, it should just show a mains fault and bleep. It should only activate if the mains is off and the back up battery in the control panel is disconnected or flat. Double check that the back up battery is ok in the panel.
Finn Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 Hi. Sorry been having computer problems so not been able to reply. Will check your suggestions at the weekend and let you know how I get on. Thanks again.
Finn Posted September 11, 2011 Author Posted September 11, 2011 Hi. Ok had a couple of hours to fiddle around with alarm system today. Think I give up! Works fine without the tamper loop. Can't find anywhere for EOL selection. Without tamper loop:- Alarm set- Removed the AC power from control panel - No siren but warning bleeps. Then remove battery cover - alarm and siren sound Remove battery cover - alarm sounds Siren- Remove the main cover screw - Siren sounds- no strobe. When rescrew screw back in the siren switches off. Remove the main cover and siren sounds - no strobe - siren silences when cover replaced When I cut the cable to the siren the siren sounds. No strobe. Alarm not set.- Removing either + or - wires and the siren sounds Remove bell- or strobe- and nothing happens. What I would like to know is what exactly does the tamper loop actually protect? It all seems to be protected as far as I can see but I am a DIY installer! Am thinking of just setting the system up as it stands. As I say it all works like a dream until I connect the tamper loop as per instructions. Thanks guys
