jezf Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 The centre number I have been using for a while appears to have been switched off. Constant engaged tone. Is there an alternative please?
GalaxyGuy Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Was that the O2 one ending 0480? Vodafone was working on 07785499993. Beware though, I was having problems with it sending out four or five repeat SMS messages before the panel would get an ack from the TAP MODEM. Could end up expensive! Better to go down the Ethernet path
james.wilson Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Agreed the free sms system is unsuitable for security use. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
jnealon Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Have you tried the sms function on the hkc www.realsecurity.ie
GalaxyGuy Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Any SMS service that uses a dial up MODEM to free TAP service is going to be unreliable. If you can use a GSM modem direct to SMS message center, then this will be much more reliable, but is still open ended. I've been working on an alternative self monitoring IP service for the Galaxy range of panels equipped with Ethernet modules. My experience is that SMS is okay for informational type messages, but priority - actionable events are better served by a voice based service. I use e-mail and SMS for all events and include voice for actionable type events. Regards,
breff Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Have you tried the sms function on the hkc Yeah uses Bt servers doesn't it? The line has to be enabled to send a text message IIRC, more like sending a landline a text message. The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct! (Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)
GalaxyGuy Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Wasn't aware of a panel that uses bt's landline SMS service. Any pointers to docs on this? Is it 10.5p per message too? Regards,

jezf Posted September 12, 2011 Author Posted September 12, 2011 Was that the O2 one ending 0480? Yes it was the O2 one and the new one works, thank you. I would like to get a GSM modem to text me on activation of the alarm. This should bypass the reliance on the free SMS message centres. But I really like the present setup in that the G3 will text me with exactly which zone has been triggered with the zone description. Will this work with a GSM modem and can anyone recommend one that will do this too?
