GalaxyGuy Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 I can't think of any current low cost stand-alone GSM module that will accept Honeywell's Microtech or SIA protocols. I was looking into this a while back with a small project that re-purposed the Redcare GSM module to do this. I did reprogram the Redcare System On Chip CPU to perform some functions, but didn't do much more, as I have been focusing more on the Ethernet side of things. I might eventually go back to it, as I have a box of the modules sat waiting. I have the Ethernet SMS setup at home just now, but find that I can easily miss the messages. I wouldn't like to rely on them for notification of a high priority event from my system. Low priority events are fine, although the wife thinks it's like 'Big Brother' watching her I get messages like this via e-mail and SMS: -----------------8<---------------------------------------------- MSG#489 HomeSystem 06:56:00 Evnt= Open area. Partially armed system disarmed. Dev= 010. Usr= 003. Xtra= UNSET DAVID. -----------------8<---------------------------------------------- And higher priority like this by E-mail, SMS and a Voice Call. The voice call reads out the 'Evnt' part of the message. Luckily, this one was my son who came home late one weekend and burnt his toast: -----------------8<---------------------------------------------- MSG#435 HomeSystem 00:02:00 Evnt= Fire alarm Fire condition detected. With additional Zone/Code: 1015 Dev= 0. Xtra= FIRE Utility Smoke. -----------------8<---------------------------------------------- I don't know if there are any 'paid-for' based TAP services that you could sign up to. Perhaps someone does ? Regards,
james.wilson Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 i looked for s paid tap service. Im sure they exist. We do use sms but we do it of the digi via the arc. Some arc's offer this and if you send SIA3 over the digi you get proper secure signalling and an sms. Not free obviously but should anyone rely on a free service for their security? Best system if you want to use SMS via TAP etc is IMO the castle way. The euro's call home (castle host computer) and pick up new details for the centre numbers every 2 weeks i think. Premium rate number but at least it will continue to work. Via ARC is the best IMO and allows it work with any signalling device. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
ricool Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Hi there, Is there anywhere that lists all the numbers? I can't find anything on the net apart from the post about the vodaphone number - does vodaphone publish this anywhere? Also regarding the BT numbers, has anyone used there text service before? i've seen the number is 017094009 but extra numbers/digits have to be added? Its more for there text phones and all the help relates to this, how do we enable it if you haven't got a text phone? Many Thanks
james.wilson Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 The bt service does not use the TAP protocol that your galaxy uses. Its a very unreliable system not designed for mission critical signalling. Whatever number you use it WILL fail again at some point. Kind of useless for alarm signalling imo. Just search here as its a regular problem. I'd advise you change your signalling system to something reliable. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.

I agree that via an arc will always be better but there is a demand for sms via pstn, I see it as a step up from bells only and has such low initial setup fees. Plus then the customer pays for the digi so we can have udl I felt exactly the same as james wilson until one of our customers (open telecom) has set up their own Tap gateway specifically for our industry and IT monitoring. I understand we could all all day long about the pitfalls of sms but if we just presume for a moment that Mr A wants sms via pstn, well I would personally use the new premium rate number (50p) rather than the vodafone number, apart from anything else the vodafone service could be pulled at any time. Anyone selling sms using the vodafone sms must be mad in my opinion. ERRRR not sure if this is public.....errrr still new to TSI.....I will find a trade only thread and tell you more. 30 years of experience, ssaib approved family business.
