Remote Reset with Veritas Excel + Speech Dialler

Hi all - have been looking at this useful forum for a while now - helped me to do my own install.

I have question regarding the functionality of the Remote Reset (R/R) input on the communicator interface of the Veritas Excel panel. Here goes a long explanation :

The panel has been in for around 6 months and working fine, but I wanted to add Texecom's speech dialler. I have wired it up (fire, PA, intruder to 1,2,3 inputs on dialler - TA on dialler to global TA on panel - prog. output 1 on dialler to R/R on panel) and it all seems to work fine. The dialler calls my mobile when any input is triggered and the remote access feature works too.

But I can't seem to get the R/R working. When I hit *1 on my phone (whilst in remote access mode of dialler) it activates the output OK - I checked with a RELAY hooked up to the R/R of the alarm panel - but it doesn't silence the alarm. I have set the option on the panel to silence internal sounders on R/R (prog option 80, 5) and that works - just not the reset part.

What is R/R supposed to do? Silence the alarm after an activation? I just don't know and the control panel install guide doesn't help me - or I don't understand it.

Hope someone can explain - thanks, Scott.

It will only silence the internal sounder, the idea then is you can listen in as the speech dialler has a built in microphone.

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

thanks - I phoned Texecom tech support today - who were very helpful. They had to rig up a panel on a test bench to confirm what you've already told me.

To get round this and get the panel to reset, I used a spare zone as a KeySwitch and wired an output from the speech dialler to the coil on a relay and then from the relay contacts to the KeySwitch zone.

Out of interest, does Texecom's Premier panel range, coupled with one of their digicom addon boards, allow you to fully control the alarm by phone? When I bought this panel I really wanted RF full/part set/unset (i.e. by a remote keyfob) and to be able to control/monitor it by phone - I have achieved this in a round about way by adding relays and components, but its not the same as a fully integrated product. Are there any that do this? I didn't really want to go down the wireless route, but these seem to be the only panels that do this sort of thing.

Thanks, Scott.

Hi

I've just set this same panel and keypad up and got remote reset working just fine. You have to use the invert remote reset setting on the control panel (option 4 under communicator interface and aslo option 5 for remote reset silences internal alarm).

On mine I don't have to press *1 to use remote reset. I have set output 1 as remote access instead off Remote Ctrl 1 as this means as soon as I go into the remote access menu, the sounder turns off then turns back on when I hang up.

Also you could use the other output on the dialler and connect it to the line monitor input on the panel. Just ensure you select the option for Phone Line Fault + on the dialler when setting the output. Then you will need to enable option 2 on the communcator settings on the control panel (line monitor cases tamper alarm on line cut) If the line is diconnected then the tamper alarm will go off and it will log it as Line Cut.

Can't see why being able to perform a remote reset by telephone is so desirable. If the alarm has activated there should be a local youth clambering back outside through the broken window. If the alarm stops, so might he!

If your alarm is activating on a regular basis, you don't want remore reset, you want to get the problem sorted.

Remote Reset will only silence the internal sounder for audio verification (listen in mode and talkback mode). It will not silence the external sounder on the texecom veritas excel panel.

Scott, I would be grateful for more detailed info on how you achieved this so I could attempt to reproduce with my system.

Thanks, Les

I thought the R/R on the excel was just for eg redcare to reset the panel instead of using the anticode reset. The Central Station can just reset at there end.

Correct, but you can wire an output from the dialler into a zone and program as latch key to set/unset

Could someone please explain in more simple detail please.

I have self installed Veritas Excel & Texecom Dialler & would like to be able to set/unset the system remotely.
