sirocco Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Does anyone know if there is there a colour code convention for wiring alarm systems? eg for passive IR detectors. I can see that red and black would be used for +/- 12v which is obvious but say in an 8 or 6 core cable which would be normally used for N/NC and tamper? On my Galaxy system Green -and White are used for the bus A and B but is there a general convention for alarm system wiring.? or is it just a case of being consistent throughout each installation?
Rulland Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Each installer tends to use their own convention I've found-even black and red are not the norm for power with some.
james.wilson Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 as above the reason some installers use green and white as power is because we used to use 4 core cable for non powered devices etc and that only had red/blk blue and yellow colours. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
fozzies Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 A standard colour code would also make alarms less secure
magpye Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Use what ever floats your boat Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.
norman Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 A standard colour code would also make alarms less secure why? Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
9651 Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Suppose if its a non fsl they can be shorted out down the line
MrHappy Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 red / yel +loop (alarm) blu / blk -loop (tamp) grn /wht 12v are the correct colours IMHO..... however we don't use 'em ! Mr Veritas God
9651 Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 We used to use a method on the older 4737 stuff as james mentioned. Now we are more to type
norman Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Suppose if its a non fsl they can be shorted out down the line have you ever had this or even heard of it, apart from CSI ? Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
