Optima Xl Problems.

hello everyone.

1st post here so please bear with me.

ok..heres the story..have an optima xl installed in house.

few years back it stopped working and i just left it..this week i got round to having a fiddle after reading up on the net..i ordered a new battery as the original had never been changed.

on fitting the new battery sure enough the system powered up and alarm went off..entered code and it stopped.

thought i was winning then i noticed there was no power light so was running straight from battery..this was what would have knackered the original one no doubt.

after a bit of investigation i discovered the fuse in behind the black fitting beside the main wiring into the panel..this was blown so changed this and the power to the unit was back.

now my problem is when i activate the alarm..zone 1 is activating straight away with led lit up on panel and the alarm will not set..if i omit zone 1 via the omit sequence then the alarm sets fine..i went outside waited for it to arm and then came back in and it turned off no problem.

now then i did a few checks via the manual such as the walk about test..there are 6 sensors.

sensor at front door reads as zone 2.

sensor in sitting room reads as zone 3

sensor in kitchen/dining room reads as zone 4

main bed room reads as zone 5

daughters bedroom as zone 6

roofspace also reads as zone 6.

no zone 1 although it lights straight up as soon as alarm is activated..now no wiring has been changed since the alarm was working originally although saying that i never knew anything about walk about tests back then..i just set the alarm and turned it off whenever i needed to so i am not sure if zone 1 was ever featuring on the panel.

sorry for writing a long winded post here guys but needed to try and explain best i could.

anybody any ideas on what i could try???

the sensors in every room all light up when motion detected so all seem to be operating ok...stumped now lads ???

many thanks in advance for any replies.

hello james

cheers for speedy reply.

there is no contact on the front door or any door..the alarm is activated when you trigger a sensor when you walk through the front door.

this seems to work ok..the problem lies with setting the alarm..zone 1 activates straight away so alarm will not set until you omit zone 1..???

Just about to post that but you beat me to it James.

There is most likely an open contact on zone 1 as James has stated. The PIR sensor at the front door is set as entry route so will allow you to walk past it on the way to the keypad as long as you omit zone 1 which is or has been a door contact on the front door, if the door contact is still present it is faulty. Easy to replace.

I would suggest that those zone numbers are wrong. Id say you have an issue on your front door contact, either door changed etc.

Thats where i would start

Logically James is correct zone 1 should be front door when you come back in does it make a entry noise?

what a great site..plenty of willing helpers immediately.

there is definately no wires etc attached to front door..just the sensors on the roof corners in the rooms.

when i set the alarm and go outside the alarm arms itself...when i come back in the alarm starts to beep for me to de-activate it..this happens as soon as the sensor picks me up when i come in..i punch the code in and it dis-arms no problem.

just the problem of zone 1 illuminating and beeping straight away..it also lights up and beeps straight away if you try a walk about test.

Zone 1 is normaly the final exit zone so starts and ends the arming disarming time, its bound to be near the entry door hence why its lit up when you try to set its seeing you move

thats what i thought as well but when i do the walk about test the front door sensor which is the one that sees you when you're setting the alarm comes up as zone 2.
