We have been asked to design a CCTV system for a project by a contractor. The brief says empoy a specialist contractor to design and install a CCTV system. How do you do this when you have no access to the end user for their input/ requirements.

We have asked the consultant and he says we must do as asked in the spec and include rotakin results with our design and quote. Possition. specification and dimensions of cameras. We have used the old NACP20 and specified variable lenses to accomadate antisipated requirements. i feel this is a bit reversed engineered as the building isnt built.

another to walk away from? How would you fellas handle this?

I assume there is a spec which states the areas to be covered or similar?

What is the end purpose of the building?

Can you get a third party to commissiong the system after you've installed, ie results?

We walked away from alot as they tend to be messers and I just don't have the time at the minute. When we do quote we just do our best with the information provided and send a disclaimer with the quote stating a final design will be offered on completion of building works.

Use scalable pricing in this scenario with provisions in the quotation text for 'appropriate' / 'adequate' / 'required' counts of equipment in order to provide the service required.

Tbh it is all down to what is in the spec? They can ask for specifics all they like but if the building is perfectly square with two entry/exit points then it is very different to one which is much more complex with site specific requirements.

What is the intention of the system btw? Are they looking for identification, recognition or just determining the presence of a person on the scene?

Is it going to be a BS8418 system?

We simply dont know.

Today we re-issued our spec stating same cameras but added what we are going to set them at and what they will see at that distance. This way we force the consultants hand to say No we need xyz.

Also added a camera layer and a schematic
