Andy G Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Hi all I'm new to the forum and have a question I was hoping someone may be able to help with! I have a customer who runs a Pub and regularly gets noise complaints from a troublesome neighbour when their function room is in use. They have asked me if there is any way they can have a camera, mic, & DVR which would be able to record and monitor the level of noise. I.E camera & mic outside in carpark area, monitor & DVR in office with a recorded readout of noise levels in db. Secondly does anyone know of a standlone noise monitor with logging/printing facility which could be setup outside the function room to do a similar job as explained. Thanks for any ideas anyone has!

PeterJames Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I would tell the neighbor to phone the environmental officer, they will have all the right kit to test if the sound levels are acceptable. Anything you do wouldnt have any bearing on the matter
richardthatcher Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 http://www.noisemeters.com/product/soundear/soundlog.asp We installed this for a pub once. I would add it is not something we do but it was a friend of a friends pub so did our best to help. Hooks up to a PC for getting the recordings.
aetherica Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 We would suggest using IP / Network Camera, as some brands (eg. Geovision, Samsung, etc) have intelligent video analytics as well as noise control (audio/video) features. The price might be higher than analog cctv cameras, but IP Camera has better video resolution (from vga to megapixel) along with its versatile CMS/Central Monitoring System software that can do more things compare to the standard DVR on screen menu. --------- CCTV Aetherica - Surveillance & Security Solutions ---------
Oxo Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 But not specifically a Noise Meter that is calibrated. So no use what so ever. Are you advertising here? As noted the noise Db reading taken by Enviromental Health may be taken at a distance and inside anothers abode, thus rendering any reading self taken invalid for defence.

As some of the IP Camera software also have SDK (software development kit), there are many possibilities how we could extend the features. The audio i/o itself can used for custom software development - and technically audio noise meter with calibration functionality can be developed as well. But this is not an Off-the-shelf solution indeed.. And we are not familiar with the Environmental Health regulation, so it might not conform to the standard regulation. Sorry about mentioning the brands. We try to be brand agnostic.. and just recommending the solution based on customers' needs. And thank you for the advice.. aetherica, please stop posting contact info in posts. As above it breaks the rules. Sorry about having the contact link. We are very new, so we thought having a forum 'signature' would be ok. Thanks for editing the post and reminding us. --------- CCTV Aetherica - Surveillance & Security Solutions ---------
james.wilson Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 You can have a sig once your a full member. In fact just noticed you have made enough posts now to edit your signature in your profile. As long as its discreet you can have links etc in there to your company. re sdk's We are an axis development partner so yes you can do anything according to your in house skills. But it still would need to be calibrated to be of any real use. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
aetherica Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 You can have a sig once your a full member. In fact just noticed you have made enough posts now to edit your signature in your profile. As long as its discreet you can have links etc in there to your company. Thank you. We really appreciate it. Our main intention to join this forum (and other cctv/security-related forums & websites) is to learn from others and also to share - if we can. Of course, we will be happy if people notice us and a forum signature is good for SEO. But these are secondary. Also we heard about UK as one of leading countries that started early in implementing CCTV/Video Surveillance in almost every aspect of everyday life - and we mean it in a positive way. It can effectively reduce & prevent crimes, and the technology is accessible to not just big companies, but also small & medium business. Obviously the security industry in the UK have dealt with many circumstances & issues and come up with solutions which would be good lessons for us. re sdk's We are an axis development partner so yes you can do anything according to your in house skills. But it still would need to be calibrated to be of any real use. Axis is one the leaders in IP Camera, we have a great respect to its brand & technology. And price wise we would consider it as one of the high-end brands. Calibration definitely plays a crucial role in getting accurate reading. It's an interesting case.. A standalone device would be very effective & accurate - as some have suggested. The audio noise meter device log can also be "paired" with Analog CCTV recording by synching & matching the time-stamp, so the pub-owner will have audio + visual proof & records. --------- CCTV Aetherica - Surveillance & Security Solutions ---------
