PeterJames Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Thx, Im with Peter on this one. My issue is one of dust. I also beleive the dust is a big NO. The last similar project i remember involved a specialist who glued then sealed the sides of a timber batton before srewing into asbestos. My idea seems to me to be the same. I have contacted asbestos testing co for before during and after tests and he will only confirm zero dust but wont tell me hoew this is to be acheived. i have already made my mind up how im going to acheive this and here lies my problem. This is my desision and its one i wont get into trouble for right or wrong, because im the responsible person. I think im just looking for moral support. Im happy would you be happy if i asked you as an employee. OR do you have a better idea? i liked my first idea which price myself out. I have no idea what you are saying you will do so how can I comment?
jb-eye Posted July 30, 2012 Author Posted July 30, 2012 found via "type h vacuum drill" into google http://s1008603.webh...uum cleaner.pdf Seen this on site before and thought it wrong at the time. it now makes sense. Thank you for the link.James im not going to drill im going to screw directly into it. no dust i promise. James is a no and i respect that, anyone a yes? Customers!
norman Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 big no I'm afraid, and I also cannot see how screwing into a medium produces no dust? have a read... http://www.hse.gov.uk/asbestos/ http://www.hse.gov.uk/asbestos/regulations.htm Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
jb-eye Posted July 30, 2012 Author Posted July 30, 2012 Two say no and one say yes. Im out voted the same rate at work. Im now going to investigate the idea that we self adhesive the trunking and get the specialist to install the fixings. Thank you again Mr H for the vacum post. that would only leave us the wiring to clean runs. I am informed that this is not notifiable work and the asbestos is not the most dangerous type but end of they must have told the builders the same 40 years ago. Cant beleive subs are so cheap. Customers!
Adi Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 How wide is the corridor 2metres or so. Why not put steel strut up, tight to the ceiling, cable on walls in trunking. I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
jb-eye Posted July 30, 2012 Author Posted July 30, 2012 I considered wall fixed tray but the kids will swing from it. i moved to wall fixed trunking and unistrut across the corridor but considered the drilling and vibro would be more harmful. ADI your class LOL Customers!
Adi Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 but if its fixed tight upto ceiling, they cant swing on it, drilling into brickwork on wall shouldnt be an issue. I take it the asbestos ceiling is painted so no dust will fall. I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
MrHappy Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Using sticky trunking & screws, PPE being masks, paper suits & a damp rags to clean in theory would be a safe & simple job. However I rather not do the work at all, Mr Veritas God
