Guest tommy Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Hello. This is a general query. I need to move a scantronic control box about 30cms to one side. This job requires no relaying or repositioning of the existing cables. My problem is I do not have any kind of paperwork with the alarm system (only the alarm code) Are there tamper devices on the screws of the box? I need to move it without the alarm going off - any suggestions?
Guest tommy Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 In fact an engineers manual could help quite nicely - where would I lay my hands on one?
Service Engineer Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 It cannot be moved without the Alarm sounding unless you put the panel into Engineer`s mode. The front cover of the control panel will be Tamper protected, removing the cover will make the internal speaker sound, but entering your user code should silence it. Are you really considering moving it LIVE..? ........................................................ Dave Partridge (Romec Service Engineer)
Guest tommy Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 I will shut down the power supply - but I suppose there is a back-up battery in the box (and probably the alarm box too) Are you saying that if I unscrew the cover the control box alarm will sound and NOT the outside alarm? I can then enter my code and the alarm will go off enabling me to move the box? How do I get my greasy mitts on an engineers manual - and how do I find out the engineers code? how do I put it into engineers mode?

The only people who will be able to provide you with the engineers code are the installers (or another alarms company who could probably reset the panel to defaults and reprogram it). Without the engineers code, the manual will be pretty useless for you. Generally speaking, the engineers manual is not available in the public domain as making it available would present a security risk. Moving the panel 30cm to the side may not look / sound like a big job at first, but it may will be more than you anticipated. Are all the alarms cables long enough to be re-routed, or will you need to make hundreds of joins? Will the live 220v cable reach safely? Are you competent to deal with the 220 volt feed safely? D7
Paul Giles Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Watch out when removing the cover! Most installers forget to fit the batt retaining arm so the 7ah can fall out on to your toe if not careful!! Aint seen a 9454 for ages! As mentioned above 30cm can be a big distance if the cables are too short. worth a quote from approved firms before u start moving it as it will need to be serviced i expect. Guest tommy Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 Thanks for the info guys. In reply to some of your questions... Yes the cables will reach without any joins, all of the power cables are long enough. I do not know who the installer was (having only recently moved in) so therefore will not be able to find out the security code. Do I need the enginers code to set the control box to default? One last run-through Theoretically I can remove the cover from the control box. The alarm will sound and I can enter my code and the alarm will stop. I can unscrew the mounting brackets and move the box to the correct position I can screw the cover back on. (thats basically how to do it without the alarm going off too much)
Brian c Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 yup, as long as nothing is disturbed in the panel, you shouldn't have any problems. When your'e finished, your code should reset the tamper fault you created If you don't know......ask.
