Guest ruk Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 Dear all After some basic advice on a good wireless system, I know in the past people had concerns with these systems, solar powered ones not being reliable, problems with signals etc. Can anyone recommend a good reliable system for a 4 bedroom house, detached, so probably best to have door window contacts etc? I read about the "Infinite" systems which have the bell boxes connected to the mains in the loft, in addition the MCP is run via the mains, is this best? Alternatively should these wireless systems be avoided and are wired systems the best thing. If anyone could provide details of supplies that would be appreciated! Thanks
Smart Electrics Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 Hi RUK. You will find that most of the people on this forum will try and steer you away from wirles but if you are going down this path then Infinite is a good system. I have tryled this product and was very happy with its operation. Its not a bad price either.

Personally I would need a lot of convincing that wireless is the way to go, if it was my money I was spending. Paul Trade Member
Smart Electrics Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 I personaley have no problem with wirles devices I have used them in the past and I would youse them in the future. It helps if you know your location IE, Transmition towers like TV, Radio, Cell sites and if you are near any NATS instaltions or big SAT stations Like goonhily in Cornwal. Also natural radio bursts like lightning can cause problems but this is rare. Yes you may have the odd activation wich you can not understand but thats radio for you. Sun spots are also another problem if your ground has a high content of silica or granit you will find that if a sun spot has released a CME coronal mass ejection towards earth then the ground geoligical will cause radio scatter or eaven blackout. This is very raire for the UK but in Canada this kind of event causes a very high voltage in the power network and trips it out. The other thing I will say if you have any Amature radio or CBers around they to can cause problems but this also rair as most work the world in either MiW or 10w of transmision power if you do get problems from these inform the DTI who will investigate. Other RFI can come from almost anywhere but I could go on for ages but hay ime on holiday so I will stop there. If you whant to go wirles its your money take advice from people who know and use your own judgment. There are special meters that you can buy but they are expensive. wich will pick up on frequencey present in your area. So the ball is in your ground take it or leave it. Wirles is the future as more and more spectrum is released but then again wirles can have more problems then hard wired.

There`s always someone local using too much power. I have a chap up the road uses 400W regulary.if you do get problems from these inform the DTI who will investigate Yeah they will, at a cost. Chargeable to the customer, not the chap causing the interferance, unless he`s breaking rules or un-licensed. ........................................................
