The trade areas of these forums are a great source of info on all things Galaxy, but you'll need to apply for trade status and be able to prove it to get access. The very basics of the links function allows you to control an ouput (or destination as it's called on the Galaxy) from an input (or source in Galaxy speak), hence "linking" an input with an output. The source can be anything from a zone (ie a PIR, door contact, push switch, light sensor etc) to a code to a max reader. The destination is most commonly switching an output but can also be used to trigger or omit a zone or even start a timer. The most common application is to link a zone to an output. When the zone changes state (ie from 1K to 2K, or closed to open) the output also changes state (ie from positive to negative). It's useful for CCTV applications where you want multiple  around the site to trigger a number of outputs in one place (ie the DVR or transmitter). It saves on cabling all of the detectors back to the DVR.

As for the output modes and polarity, the latch mode means that when the output is activated, it latches on until a valid code is entered into a keypad. This would usually be something like an intruder output. The reflex option means that the output follows the event status (ie the Set output type activates when the system is set and deactivates when the system is unset). The pulse option switches the output on for a preset length of time. The polarity option is to tell the galaxy wether you want the output to be normally at 12 volts switching to 0 volts on activation or normally 0 volts and switching to 12 volts on activation

The possibilities are quite wide ranging and I'd recommend you pick up a used G3-48 and keypad and have a play about with it on a test bench. That's the best way to get to grips with them!

No problem. It's refreshing to see a relative new comer to the trade showing some enthusiasm and willing to learn, even in their own time. It's a shame this kind of attitude isn't more prevalent in the industry. There are too many "engineers" around simply installing "this-colour-wire-goes-in-this-terminal" with no real idea what they are actually doing or why they are doing it that way!

PS, it's not Laser is it?
