didnt know that norm, cheers, was good in its day,but old tech now surely..

Agreed. Be keen to know if Advantor have made it BS8243 compliant just for 1 particular company? Another big issue with it was it didn't have prox keypads, only a code.

I worked for Sonitrol (which was at first an independent franchise from the US, later to be swallowed up and spat out by ADT) and was a supervisor at the ARC in Manchester. It was an excellent product if used correctly. We covered all of Leeds City Council schools as well as many National companies, such as Securicor Omega, Arends International, Bookers cash and carry, etc etc and the number of arrests we used to get was unreal. For every arrest there was a £50 bonus, so it was well worth keeping on your toes and listening in. The audio detection system worked by dialing in as soon as any noise above a certain level was heard. It was then able to play back to the operator the 5 seconds before it was activated and then live audio. From this you might have got some talking, wood splintering, glass smashing etc, all before any passives were activated. By the time the police and K9 were on the scene the thief had just got his foot inside usually and we'd hear some great audio once the dog was let loose. We used to do all the Comet's too, and these break ins could range from ram raids, to break ins through the roof, to chain saws on the shutters. It'd wake you up with a start on the night shift but get your adrenalin racing. As I say, it was a great product away from ADT. 3250, 4250, systems were basic and good, then they brought in the Advantage Plus with loads of add ons and it could get complicated. When ADT took us over properly, they flooded us with new systems that we couldn't monitor as efficiently. Systems coding in and out at the end of the night through the ARC would have a job getting through to register with the main system as there weren't enough lines to handle it. Once we stopped using the Sonitrol name the customer's felt sold out and thought it had all been handed over to a different company with less emphasis on the 'personal' touch. More a 'take your money and run' attitude. 6 years working shifts there passed by in the blink of an eye. But we had a great rapport with the engineers (unless we were calling them up at 5pm for a system that wouldn't code out (arm). A great team of lads and girls that monitored there. What I liked about it was that you got to know your customers, we had a lot of National Accounts as well as small businesses and the Security Managers from these got to know us. I'd go back to it tomorrow if it wasn't now in Swindon lol For anyone who is interested, it was designed in America to detect termites in buildings and later modified for alarm systems.
