Lwillis Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Hi everyone Have a customer who has recently changed their sky supplied Adsl router . We have an alien dvr installed using a dyndns and the correct ports forwarded it has been working fine for 6 months without any problems . The issues started when they "upgraded" the router to the new sky hub ( little white one ) Was called back to site to setup the new router so they can access using the iPhone app as before . Setup same was as the old router . Now the network connection is fine locally using both wifi only iPhone app and the built in web server the issue only occors when we connect via the Internet through the new router . It works for a minute or two then the dvr reboots constantly until its removed from the Internet and its fine . It's obviously something that they new sky hub does different to their older sagem routers but sky technical aren't giving anything away. Anyone else had any issues ?
Neutech Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I have had a number of issues with Sky routers in past, i ended up putting in Netgear to sort the problem out as the Thompson or whatever sky sent were nothing but aggro Hope you get sorted
james.wilson Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Im struggling to see why a router would cause a dvr to reboot. DOnt use either but id be looking at disabling ip6, not using dmz and try dhcp reservation and static ip in the unit direct. Id also disable uPNP but then id be out of ideas securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Lwillis Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 Quick update - Added ip reservation Replaced the router with te customers original one But the until still reboots after a external wan connection .
Joe Harris Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Test with a locally connected device such as a laptop connected directly to see if the same occurs.
sixwheeledbeast Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Test with a locally connected device such as a laptop connected directly to see if the same occurs. You'll need a crossover cable for this. Good way to rule out the routers.
james.wilson Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Replaced the router with te customers original one So its nowt to do with the new router? You'll need a crossover cable for this. Good way to rule out the routers. Not normally with modern laptops they usually autodetect this themselves securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
sixwheeledbeast Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 So its nowt to do with the new router? It does sound like the units fecked.
PeterJames Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Try the DVR at another location if it still does it then it sounds like a power supply issue if its a plug in psu check the voltage
Couger Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 ref the psu you will find it may output the rated voltage but will fail under load
