Cubit Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I wish . . . http://www.homeguardsecurity.co.uk/ In Yorkshire you can't turn down a street that doesn't have their bell box's on. Their website says 90,000 now. At one time they used nothing but Texecom and when I'd go up to their offices you would think it was an ADI branch. They started back in the early 90's and used to advertise on the front page of the Yorkshire Evening Post at £199 (Think it was all A1 alarms from B&Q at the time) and their popularity went through the roof. I don't know when they moved on to Texecom but they have used it for a fair while. To be fair to John he certainly managed to flood a market, but at the time he started people didn't really have alarms like they do now and the price was hard to with. No NSI / SSAIB but he gave the householders what they wanted, a cheap burglar alarm. They have a lot on maintence. I think he only charges £35 - £40 fully comp per year. Actually, not as popular as you think. Certainly round their own area their kit is few and far between.
matthew.brough Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 The box's with their logos on that I see must be competitors helping them get brand awareness. They are doing a good for them too. www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
james.wilson Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 There is a lot of wireless kit out there, I don't particularly like it and I certainly wouldn't use it in my own business with the exception of maybe an arm / disarm fob. You will get the opposite view from some, in my opinion people who don't really understand radio rate it in a higher league than those that do. I'd strongly advise you to keep to the trusted cable. Back on topic I rate some wireless but most of it is poor. SOme 2 way systems are also not as good as others. Avoid at all costs anything that is 1 way. I dont agree with Matt and i do have a very good understanding on how wireless works. As i said avoid 1 way. Have a look at the HKC 2 way implimentation or texecom ricochet IMO. Texecoms is a mesh network so the larger the system the better the performance. IMO not sure how it would be in a 3 or 4 device system though. securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
gps Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 Thanks for the comments guys, To be honest i would rather stick to hardwired systems when possible, only thing is if im quoting for a job and the customer has hardwood or laminate floors fitted and doesnt want wires or trunking visable then it seems i would have to at least give them the wireless option? Especially if the competition has already mentioned the possibility of wireless to them, my thinking is if i have to go wireless then push a quality system over a cheap yale or other budget kit , the one ive been looking at is the castle enforcer, which is two way and on the 2 frequencies.
james.wilson Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I think some of the lads that use that have reported a few issues. I have no idea never looked at it securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Alarm Protection Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Look at the Risco lightsys panel. All you need for under 32 zones hard wired or wireless. We have approx 130 Gardtec wireless out there grade 2 one way and not any real problems. That is total wireless and not hybrid. Folk with 2 way but its graded and to spec. The enforcer is a good bit though so each to their own. !

I will do thanks for the advice, seems to me that some installers like wireless and some dont, also you find your own kit that you like using, its the same with the gate automation and access control stuff that we fit, ive used wireless and gsm intercoms for a few years now with no real problems to speak of. I tend to offer the customer two options one made to a budget and the other using top quality kit which is made to last, then let them decide. Maybe thats the way to go with the alarms.
sjsturner Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Haven't had a problem with scanny ion yet or mr nodes but only use if cable cannot be routed.the wired ones too have weaknesses nowadays like builders! I have always maintained that cabled is best but a lot of customers don't want the hassle anymore.they do them for 199down my way.wouldn't use one of those on my shed!! norman Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I wish . . . http://www.homeguardsecurity.co.uk/ lol, yes they were everywhere and I know a couple of ex employees who worked for Barry Thistleton, I lolled @ the YT user name, sort of summs up I reckon... http://www.youtube.com/user/HomeguardSEC?feature=watch Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
matthew.brough Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 That's funny, I didn't know they had a you tube channel. I suppose each to their own but I've never understood why they want so many customers at little or no margin. With fully inclusive contracts at such little money I'd be terrified of product failure. www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/
