Guest Guest Posted August 25, 2004 Posted August 25, 2004 Are the buttons on the keypad flat or raised? 21533[/snapback] The keypad is flat with pressure areas for the buttons. I installed the fuse last night. Still no action from the PIRs. We armed the system and got a fault on zone 1. Tried omitting zone 1 and it seemed to arm itself but, not surprisingly, walking around the house failed to cause an "alarm condition" as you guys call it on here. So I sat down with the Yellow Pages and called another local specialist, who sounded a bit more interested and will be calling in a few days. To give you an idea of the kind of house we have bought, the heating was - until yesterday - controlled by two separate panels, the lower one controlling the upstairs heating, which has no room 'stat. The upper panel controlling the downstairs heating, with the 'stat in the lounge right opposite the fireplace. The outside security lights are switched on with normal light switches inside the house, with some kind of activating time delay mechanism, which I still haven't figured out despite having a BA Honours degree to my name. The entire house is riddled with DIY-installed cables for sound systems, telephone, satellite, even a video system, which allowed the occupants of all the bedrooms to sit alone in their rooms watching the same video on wall-mounted TVs. But it hasn't had a lick of paint since it was built in 1990 and decorated in already out-of-date 1980s Brewer's Fayre pub style. Ghastly. We are making a small fortune selling the chandeliers and laminate flooring to a local Pakistani taxi driver.
Guest RICHL Posted August 25, 2004 Posted August 25, 2004 I rather like the pub theme myself The flat buttons tells me that your controller is a really early version of the concept panel, and if you are getting someone in to have a look at it he would more than likely recommend a complete new install. Re the outside lights - an engineer should be able to figure that out, but it may just be a plug in timer with a load of wiring split off it! (have a look in the loft). Sorry about the lack of enthuiasm you've had from the trade so far, but a lot of installers wont touch system that they havnt installed, or wont touch old installs - tin of worms and all that :!: Hope it all goes well

We will be asking the engineer to fit complete new quality hardware as we don't want cheap rubbish in our house.
norman Posted August 25, 2004 Posted August 25, 2004 We will be asking the engineer to fit complete new quality hardware as we don't want cheap rubbish in our house. A man who speaks sense! Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
Guest RICHL Posted August 25, 2004 Posted August 25, 2004 Absolutely. You may want to get a quote or two, and if you have any questions feel free to ask on here.
